29th August 2022 will go down in gaming history as the day that the greatest small gaming convention was started. At 12pm the doors opened at The Bedford in Balham and the attendees flocked in so quickly that I had to stand back and wait my turn (at the bar of course).
It was a sell out crowd made up of some of the nicest people you will ever meet. There was lots of Zatu staff including famous Youtube stars Amber and Arthur, there were awesome games companies demoing their games with such enthusiasm that the queues lasted all day, there were families and friends, and finally there was a really quiet bunch of very excited gamers playing silly games all day and not getting in anyone's way (this was the bloggers and we would like to apologise for the noise and for blocking the walking route on the mezzanine floor, oh and also special apologies if anyone walked past as we played porno charades).
A special mention to the amazing location The Bedford in Balham, the staff were fantastic and very welcoming and the drinks flowed well. The actual pub is amazing with beautiful décor, lots of seating and an amazing mezzanine room which staged the awesome Pub Quiz at the end of the day.
The selection of games available in the library was really impressive with titles to please everyone's tastes from Euros to Party Games and everything else in between. There were also people playing their own games and Kites went down very well with the bloggers and friends.
There was a Zatu pop up shop selling all of the latest hot titles as well as Zatu Merch, I just managed to grab a copy of Akropolis before it sold out. Games were flying off the shelves but not as fast as the famous mystery boxes. I saw so many people with the boxes all excited to see what wonders they have inside.
This was a fantastic day out for everyone with smiles and laughter everywhere you looked. The team at Zatu did an amazing job and the whole day went incredibly smoothly.
I loved every minute of my time at Zatu Con ‘22 and will be getting my tickets as soon as they are available for the next one as it will definitely sell out in record time.
