World Cancer Day: Inspire Action

world cancer day feature

The 4th of February 2021 marks World Cancer Day. A day that unites people, communities and entire countries in the fight against cancer. World Cancer Day 2021 is focusing on raising awareness and spurring individuals to take action and get involved.

What is World Cancer Day?

Led by the Union for International Cancer Control, it is designed to celebrate the incredible work across the globe. Cancer Research UK is one of the thousands of members of the UICC. All working to transform the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. World Cancer Day is one singular initiative under which the entire world can unite together in the fights against the global cancer epidemic.

Here at Zatu Games, we are lucky enough to work with some incredible guest bloggers. Coming from every corner of the country, our bloggers are passionate about gaming and love to share their thoughts on new releases and classic board games.

Let's Celebrate Nathan

On World Cancer Day, we wanted to shine a light on one of our amazing bloggers. When he isn't deep in a game of Agricola, Nathan Coombs can be found on the frontlines of the battle against cancer. With over 20 years of experience in breast surgery, endocrine surgery and general surgery, we wanted to celebrate Nathan in this blog post.

Nathan is one of only six UK specialist breast surgeons to offer a technique of allowing women with breast cancer to receive all of their cancer treatment in one day. Even treating the first patient in Wiltshire in 2015. He is passionate and dedicated to his work and continues to be an inspiration to everyone here at Zatu Games.

On top of his incredible work, Nathan is also a keen board gamer. He first discovered a passion for games in his childhood. When time permits, he can be found playing worker placement titles with his wife and family. With his collection growing, Nathan can often be found getting to grips with brand new titles before sharing his thoughts in a Zatu review.

The Greatest Hits

Coming up to his 50th blog milestone, we wanted to share a few of our favourites with you. Big Potato is known for their hilarious and quirky party games. Herd Mentality is no exception! Along with a fun review of the game, Nathan took it one step further and took the game to an actual field of cows.

Similarly, Nathan's review of Succulent also delivered another ingenious gallery of photos. In this review, he channelled one of the past times that got the nation through lockdown 1.0 - gardening. Now, don your gardening gloves and grab your watering can and head over to his review of Succulent.

Earlier this week, we published the first in Nathan's brand new blog series focusing on board game mechanics. The first in the series focuses on real-time or all-play gaming mechanics. This feature examines the fun antics associated with real-time mechanic and all-play as a mechanic. Be sure to read it here.

Get Involved

Once again, we wanted to show our support for World Cancer Day and the incredible Nathan Coombs. You can find out more about World Cancer Day here and how you can get involved here. If you want to keep tabs on Nathan, keep an eye on his blogger page.
