Warhammer Bulletin: The Skaventide Rises

SKAVENTIDE

Welcome to another Warhammer Bulletin, taking a look each week at what’s gone up for pre-order in the Warhammer universe. While last week was the big launch of the Skaventide box set, this week is no less important. You can now pre-order several key items that are included in the box separately, giving you the ability to play the new edition without having to buy the whole box. So without further ado, let’s dive in.

Age of Sigmar - Core Book

This beautiful 288-page hardback book is, as the name suggests, the core thing you need in the new edition. While it does indeed tell you how to play, it's so much more than that. This will get you fully entrenched into the Mortal Realms as a whole. It has a variety of background information presented in numerous styles, including a cosmology of the eight realms, page upon page of amazing artwork, fantastic miniature photography and a quick look into all the factions. From a functional perspective it contains the core and advanced rules, Battlepack: First Blood with 3 Battleplans for matched play, and Battlepack: Ascension for Path to Glory campaigns.

If you are quick you can also get it in an even more stunning numbered limited edition that comes in an illustrated slipcase. This is only sold by GW.

General’s Handbook 2024-25

For those eager to dive into matched play, this is the book for you. This 112-page spiral-bound book contains everything needed for competitive games of AoS for the first season, which lasts a year. Inside you’ll find the core and advanced rules, plus the season rules (which is focused on General’s honour guards), 12 Battleplans (many of which you'll find familiar from previous editions), updates for Endless Spells and a tournament Organisers pack.

Spearhead: Fire and Jade Gaming Pack

The beauty of Spearhead is you don’t need a lot to play it. The Spearhead (and some old Vanguard) boxes contain exactly the units you need to make up each faction's initial roster, and you might have enough models in your collection besides.

So once you have the models on hand all you need is this pack. Inside you’ll find four pieces of terrain, range rulers, a double-sided game board with objectives printed on, a Twist Deck for each side and two identical Battle Tactic decks for each player.

It should also be noted that the Battlepack for Spearhead and each faction’s Spearhead rules will be available for free, the faction rules in the Faction Packs we discuss below.

Faction Packs

This new edition is such a dramatic change that none of the current unit rules you have are valid, therefore all the new faction rules will be available in Faction Packs. These are available either to buy as physical copies, or to download for free. Each faction pack contains a background summary, cards with your armies’ Battle Traits, Battle Formations, Heroic Traits, Artefacts of Power, Spell Lores, Prayer Lores, and Manifestation Lores. As mentioned above, they also include cards for games of Spearhead, with Battle Traits, Regiment Traits, Enhancements, and warscroll cards.

Grand Alliance Dice

Nothing commits you to a grand alliance quite like themed dice. Which appeals to you the most? Order, Death, Destruction or Chaos?

White Dwarf Issue 502

New editions always produce great issues of White Dwarf, and this one is sure not to disappoint. It has tons of information on the new edition, including interviews, painting and modelling advice, and most importantly, the first printed battle report of 4th edition!

That's not to say 40k is absent however, it will still include information on the Xeowar in Warzone Chalnath, a commentary on the Parish Nexus Chapter Approved Mission Pack, and Crusade rules.

Black Library

It’s the turn of the Sisters of Battle this week with an amazing limited edition book and a collection of short stories.

● Morvenn Vahl: Spear of Faith (Mega Limited Edition) - A truly stunning special very limited edition available direct from GW. Velvet effect cover, embroidered pattern, gold foil, and a red ribbon marker. Copies are numbered and include an afterword from the author. It includes a set of six art prints of Imperial Saints, and The Book of Saints itself)

● The Daughters of the Emperor (eShort Subscription available direct from GW)

Warhammer+

Over on the Warhammer+ side of things, we have a couple of new things coming out this week.

Loremasters continue their exploration of the Mortal Realms with a trip through Chamon and Shyish, the realms of Metal and Death.

Citadel Colour Masterclass has got a new guide on something you might need for the Skaven in the new edition, distressing wood.
