Warhammer Bulletin: Starter Sets

WARHAMMER
WARHAMMER

Welcome to another Warhammer Bulletin, taking a look each week at what’s gone up for pre-order in the Warhammer universe. After a brief detour for a couple of weeks, now we return to the Mortal Realms. Now the initial hype of the new edition has calmed down, you might like to know how to get started with the new edition, or AoS in general. Let’s investigate.

Age of Sigmar

Introductory Set

For a basic introduction to the Mortal Realms, you can’t go wrong with the introductory set. It gives you enough models to get to grips with the rule basics, and they are even push fit so you don’t need glue. It also includes paints and a brush for you to try your hand at some painting.

The set includes 5 Stormcast Eternal Liberators, 20 SKaven Clanrats, 6 paints, 1 paintbrush, a play mat, 6 dice, a range rule and a 48-page handbook.

Starter Set

Stepping up from the intro set is the starter set, for those who already have a basic grasp of what’s going on. This has everything you need to get started with the new edition with a variety of models and all the accessories you need.

This set includes 35 push-fit miniatures, which are a Lord-Veritant with Gryph-crow, 3 Prosecutors, 5 Liberators, 1 Grey Seer, 1 Warlock Engineer, 3 Rat Ogors and 20 Clanrats. It also includes a guidebook, range rulers, dice and a double-sided board.

Ultimate Starter Set

And finally, for those who want to get the new edition started with a bang, we have the Ultimate Starter Set. This set covers everything you could possibly need and more, including the new Spearhead game mode.

This set contains all the miniatures (and board) found in the Starter Set, plus 1 Lord Vigilant on Gryph-stalker, 1 Clawlord on Gnaw-beast, and plenty of terrain. It also includes the Fire & Jade Spearhead rulebook, plus the battle tactic and twists decks required.

Stormcast Eternals Paint Set

If you’re a fan of the Stormcast Eternals and want to try your hand at painting some before you dive into anything else, then this box can get you started. It comes with a starter brush, 3 push-fit Liberators and a selection of paints for you to try out.

Skaven Paint Set

On the other hand, if Skaven are more your thing, then this is the box you’ll want. Similar to the other box, except with 5 push-fit Clanrats and colours more keeping to the Skaven aesthetic.

Paint and Tools set

If you’ve dived into one of the starter sets, or have got some other models you want to build and paint, then this set will give you everything you need. It includes some clippers, a starter brush, a mouldline scraper and 13 paints that will let you try out a variety of colour schemes.

Getting Started with Age of Sigmar

For the simplest of places to get started, why not try this getting started guidebook. An 88-page introductory magazine that covers all the basics you need to know about all aspects of the hobby. It also includes 2 push-fit miniatures.

Warcry

Briar and Bone

The newest Warcry expansion, coming to us from the twisted boughs of the Gnarlwood, is Briar and Bone. The Ossiarch Hunters, coming to take their tithe, take on the Twistweald, corrupted Sylvaneth spirits. It’s shaping up to be quite a confrontation! The set also includes a new Ravening Gnarloak scenery piece, a 64-page Warband Tome: Briar and Bone, 12 fighter cards, 3 ability cards, 3 divider cards, and 42 battleplan cards.

Ydrilan Riverblades

We also have the standalone release of the Ydrilan Riverblades warband, skilled fighters who excel at avoiding harm and counter-attacking, then repositioning to launch themselves at their vulnerable enemies.

Pyregheists

Another standalone release, the Pyregheist are tortured spirits. Bound by Nagash for preserving life, and therefore denying him his rightful harvest, they will spend eternity in his service.

Idol of the Old Ones

If you’re like a terrain centrepiece that will definitely make an impression, you can’t go wrong with the Idol of the Old Ones. An archaic remnant of the Seraphone temple-ship, Eye of Chotec, it also provides a great platform from which more agile fighters can launch themselves.

Black Library

Once again Black Library opens its doors for a few releases, the first couple of which have some awesome associated miniatures.
