Thanks to April I’m now 40 and full of chocolate eggs. Luckily the combination of Nintendo Switch Sports and the constant stress of sky-rocketing bills is helping me keep the weight off. May brings with it a whole load of titles coming out, which we’ll get to. But before any of those releases, I’ll be celebrating my Boxer dog, Eugene’s, 12th birthday. He probably won’t be able to handle his entire birthday pizza the way he used to, but I’ll give him a slice or three. But anyway, May is jam-packed so I’m keeping my rambling to a minimum this month, you lucky things.
I’m currently playing: I’ve bagged myself a platinum trophy on Elden Ring so have opted for a couple of lighter games to play while I recover - Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga on PlayStation4 and Nintendo Switch Sports on Nintendo Switch.
I’m currently hyped for: Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp on Switch and The Quarry on PlayStation4.
New Games
April saw the release of the long-awaited Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga on all platforms. Crysis Remastered hit Nintendo Switch on the same day as an added bonus. Lake also came out on both of Sony’s consoles. The excellent 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim also hit the Switch as well as Nintendo Switch Sports! Finally Tiny Tina’s Wonderland came out on the PlayStations and Xboxes.
As mentioned May has a big old bunch of games coming out so let’s get cracking. On the 13th get your boomstick ready as Evil Dead: The Game comes out on PlayStation5, PlayStation4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, while the Switch sees the release of both Let’s Get Fit and Hidden Objects Collection Volume 2. The 17th Two Point Campus comes out on all platforms, which is from the same people that brought us Theme Hospital’s spiritual successor - Two Point Hospital. The 19th gives us Vampire The Masquerade: Swansong on both PlayStation’s and Xboxes. Ikai hits PlayStation4 and Switch on the 20th. Eastward gets a physical release for the Nintendo Switch on the 24th.
Right, take a breath. Ready? Let’s jump back in -The 25th sees the release of Mortal Shell: GOTY edition on PlayStation4 and PlayStation5. The very next day has The Ascent on both PlayStations and Sniper Elite 5 hitting all platforms. On the 27th we have My Little Pony: A Maretime Bay Adventure coming out on PlayStation4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Switch. And finally, on the 31st Arcade Paradise is out on PlayStation5, PS4 and Switch as well as Autobahn Police Simulator 3 on both of Sony’s consoles.
Announcements
Square Enix Sells Off Western Studios and IPs
Square Enix has sold off its western studios and over 50 intellectual properties to Embracer Group for a cool $300m. This means Embracer will now own Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal as well as IPs such as Tomb Raider, Dues Ex, Thief, and Legacy of Kain.
The deal does not include games Square Enix publishes from external studios, such as Life is Strange, Just Cause, and Outriders.
What does this mean for the future? Personally, I’d love some Legacy of Kain remasters or some lovely new sequels.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Officially Announced
Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward has now confirmed its new entry in Activision’s shooter series will be titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This is, obviously, the sequel to 2019’s excellent Modern Warfare reboot.
