Top 5 Games for National Pizza Day!

PIZZA DAY
PIZZA DAY

Oh, sweet, Pizza. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways….. Elizabeth Barrett Browning must have been a woman after my own heart because she was most definitely speaking about pizza. No? Well she should! Carby, chewy, cheesy, meaty, spicy pillows of taste explosion that fill my dreams with tasty awesomeness. Sourdough base with masses of crust is my bag but you can have yours however you want. There is no limit when it comes to pizza – every possible combination is valid. And, just like this Neapolitan munchable masterpiece, games come in all flavours and varieties.

To celebrate this tasty delight, 9 February 2025 has been designated National Pizza Day! And to celebrate, we are showcasing 5 games where pizza is the main course!

New York Slice

Couldn’t get any more on the nose than New York Slice, which is all about those pizza pies!

An I-slice-you-choose, set collection game, players will be deciding how to separate a pizza into sections for other players to take. But what about the slices you want? Well, you are last on the list when it comes to selection. So, tempting your opponents with things you want the least is how you win, But with open information and everything on show, it could be hard to hide what’s tickling your tastebuds. So it could take some tasty bonus scoring “specials” to make it happen. You’ll gain points for having the most pizza pieces of specific values/types by the end of the game. But, if you think an opponent has a bigger appetite than you, you can choose to eat pieces of pepperoni pizza at the end of a round to bank early points. Beware being left with anchovies, however, as they stink when it comes to VPs!

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza

I know the glory is being split 5 ways, but we will allow it because this game is so awesome.

So much fun and so many editions, Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza is vying for the most competitive game we own! In the game everyone takes it in turn to chant a word from the order: Taco, Cat, Gat, Cheese, Pizza. As you say your word, you lay down a card from your hand onto the central pile. If the word you said and the picture on your card match, players then race to touch the pile because the slowest player has to pick up all the cards. But beware being too happy slappy. Any pre-empting, flinching, or mis-match card smacking will also land you with the pile!

There are also a sprinkling of special cards which require different actions before diving for the cards in the centre. And if you get them wrong, or you’re last to touch the pile, you pick up all the cards, pizzas or otherwise!

With fists beating chests, fingers drumming the table, chanting, and mad hand dashing, this is a great little game to fit into the big day! And with a special celebration edition as well as a Fifa copy and a flip mode, there’s a Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza out there for everyone!

P for Pizza

A pizza game in the shape of a pizza slice – clever! Big Potato have paused their tater toting and have come up with an “easy cheesy letter game”. Super easy to learn, there’s a tri-split category card and letter cards, one of which gets assigned to each category on show. Players then race to shout a word that matches the category that begins with the connected letter.

Green categories are vitamin-simple ramping up to saucy red. As you win cards, you must build your own pizza slice, but you have to obey the crusty construction rules. Greens form the base, yellows can be bottom or middle, and reds can go anywhere. The game ends as soon as a player has completed their own slice. A tasty triple-speed treat to enjoy on Pizza Day!

Food Chain Magnate

Heavy on flavour, heavy on sauce. Food Chain Magnate is a stuffed crust, triple-cheese, meat-feast helping of gaming goodness. Weighted 4.2/5 on Board Game Geek, this slice of gaming action is a double helping of strategy as you build up a chain of fast food outlets. It’s an economic game for 2-5 players where you’ll spend 2-4 hours exploring and exploiting the various aspects of building up and running your tasty business. Make the most money is your goal, so you’ve got to get those order out faster than a moped on NOX! With kitsch artwork and more crunch than scorched sourdough, Food Chain Magnate is a game for those who want a seriously satisfying session! And if you still have room for seconds, you can indulge in the expansion content!

Diced Veggies

In a unique take on components, Diced Veggies has you using a big ol’ cleaver to carve up ingredients taking the form of dice. Those ingredients can then be used to cook delicious dishes including peppy pizzas for satisfying VPs. But you can only select dice from the edge, and then can’t exceed the maximum combined value! As well as dishes to prepare, you can pick Hypes to boost the value of your recipes. And if you’re really stuck, there are some handy Chef Tokens to help manipulate the dice values or types for maximum scoring potential.

Well, we don’t know about you, but we are hungry now! Thin and crispy or deep pan, it doesn’t matter so long as it is pizza! We hope these game suggestions have whetted your appetite for some great games on Pizza Day and every other day!
