Top 5 Burger Games For National Burger Day!

FLIPPIN BURGERS

With cheese? Pickles begone? How do you feel about pineapple? August 29 is National Burger Day so it’s time to brandish our buns with pride!

I’m a plant based burger fan. Got to be ¼ lb, ketchup and mustard slathered, raw red onion, and plenty of umami-moerishness. Hubby favours a double crispy chicken fillet with a field full of leaves, lashings of mayo, and classic seedy bap.

However you like to eat yours, there are plenty of games to play alongside the king of the BBQ food choices. So grab your napkins, edge out your elbows, lean forwards and take a big bite out of one of these tasty game suggestions:

Flippin’ Burgers

Flippin’ Burgers by Bubblegum stuff is everything you love about flipping beer mats in the pub combined with real-time game stacking fun. Wrapped in a checked waxed paper wrapped, everything about Flippin’ Burgers looks like an order from the best 50s diner you could imagine. Even the instructions look like a proper menu! Once you realise that you haven’t been sent a surprise snack, select a menu item and then grab ingredients, stack them, flip them, and catch them to gain points. With real-time pressure to perform, Flippin’ Burgers has a number of ways to help mini chefs make the perfect patty. It also contains brilliant components that look good enough to eat!

Food Chain Magnate

Heavy on flavour, heavy on sauce, this is the meatiest game on the list. Weighted 4.2/5 on Board Game Geek, FCM is a deeply strategic game about building up a chain of fast food outlets. An economic game for 2-5 players, you’ll spend 2-4 hours exploring and exploiting the various aspects of building up and running your business. You want to make the most money, so you’ve got to get those order out lickety split! With kitsch artwork and more crunch than a crinkle cut cucumber, Food Chain Magnate is a game for those who want a seriously satisfying session! And if you still have room for seconds, there are also some expansion content on the menu!

Burger Balance

How good are you at Buckaroo? How steady is your hand? If the answers to these questions is excellent then Burger Balance is going to be your bag! In this delicious looking dexterity gaming, you’ll be stacking the ingredients to make and balance a chonky wooden burger on the top of a tomato sauce bottle! The fate of the dice determines which part of the burger you’ll need to add on your turn. But if you are too heavy on the sauce, the whole lot will topple, making a mess of your chances of victory! A great game with the kiddos, this is a super light game that fits into a handy storage bag for games on the go!

Fast Food Fury

The only co-operative game on this list, you are teams of food truck chefs intent on filling festival goers’ tummies in order to turn patties into pennies! You’ll have your own food truck and you’ll be racing to grab the ingredients you need in order to fulfil orders. Why? Because your team need to sell in order to win the game. Be careful though. If you try to grab something you don’t need, you’ll have to trash it. Collect too much trash, and you’ll be forced to deconstruct one of your orders – how very

Gen Z of you! haha! You’ll need eagle eyes too because, as well as lightning fast reactions, there are cards with backgrounds and details designed to trick you!

Happy City

Happy City from Gamewright and Coiledspring games is a lovely, light card based engine building game about building your perfect town. Collecting 10 buildings over the course of a game, you must maximise smiles by ensuring your population is happier than any other player’s townsfolk. Played over two phases, you will firstly generate money that you can then spend in phase 2. Before you can buy a unique building, however, you can discard one from the available market and add some new ones. With tempting choices including burger bars, as well as some special bonus buildings, you’ll need to keep an eye on everyone’s metropolises because end game scoring is based on your citizens multiplied by the number of hearts you have collected.

I hope this list has whetted your appetite for gaming on National Burger Day! It would be remiss of me to end this blog without a warning though. When playing games with food, make sure sticky fingers and spillable sauces are kept well away from the components! There is nothing sadder than a cola rippled card, or a grease covered game board. Play safe, dear friends, and you’ll be enjoying your games long after your burgers are a delicious memory!
