The ever-popular party game, Codenames, is adding yet another cultural icon to its roster. Yes, following the success of Disney and Marvel, The Simpsons are next in line to join the franchise. Mmmmm… Cultural icons…
For those unfamiliar with Codenames, the idea of the game is for teams to pick out the correct words/pictures from a table that both players have access to according to a code that only the spymaster/s have access to. Clues can be given to multiple cards. However, be careful as lurking amidst the cards lie your opponents card and the assassin, who can wreck the whole game.
The Simpsons Codenames
The Simpsons edition will feature images of the characters, locations, scenarios and objects from the show. (Does a three-eyed fish count as a character or an object?) You can expect to find favourites such as Mr Burns, Ned Flanders, Bart, Moe, and Chief Wiggum. The Simpsons is the longest running animated series ever, so you may need some prior knowledge to win this one. Not everyone’s memory stretches back to poor Timmy O’Toole being stuck in a well but… eh, whaddya gonna do?
This special edition will also feature:
- 200 Springfield cards, giving you an Eye On Springfield (enough with the obscure references!).
- 40 Key cards.
- 25 Cover cards featuring Homer J Simpson and The Boy (in red and yellow, as opposed to red and blue).
- Card stand.
- Instructions.
Coming Soon
The Simpsons Codenames will be released in time for the show's 30th anniversary, and the festive season. At the time of writing, there are no official plans for this to be released in the UK. However, both Disney and Marvel editions were USA-only releases originally, and they eventually made the trip across the pond.
Given our love for The Simpsons here in the UK, we'll be keeping our fingers crossed for a British release. The OP... Please don't let us down!!
