The Moor Visitors Expansion is a 40 card expansion pack to the successful Viticulture, published by Stonemaier Games. Released in April 2016, this expansion comes from Uwe Rosenburg, Jamey Stegmaier and Alan Stone. You will need to own a copy of the base game of Viticulture to make use of this expansion.
The expansion contains 20 new Summer visitor cards and 20 new Winter visitor cards. These new cards can be shuffled into the original Viticulture Summer and Winter visitor decks.
Two of the cards in this expansion packs are replacements. The Summer visitor card, Harvest Machine, is a replacement for the Harvest Machine card found in Tuscany (a Viticulture expansion). The Winter visitor card, Promoter, is to replace the Promoter card in Viticulture if you have the 2nd edition.
The majority of the cards play by the same rules as the current visitor cards and so they don’t add any new mechanisms into the game but there are a handful of cards in this pack which do play differently than any of the original visitor cards. The ‘Grand Sponsor’ Summer visitor card, for example, features a new end-game scoring condition. When you play this card, it does not go into the discard pile as normal, instead it is placed to the left of your player board. It states that if, at the end of the game, you don’t have at least a score of 4 on the residual payments tracker you lose 4 victory points.
Final Thoughts
The Moor Visitors Expansion does not make any huge changes to the game but does add some extra variety to your card deck. If you are a frequent player of Viticulture this expansion would provide more options for your gameplay and introduces the card with new end-game goals.
