Warhammer has lifted the lid on a brand new box of miniatures for its Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game, based on the upcoming anime fantasy film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, which releases in December. Aptly revealed on Hobbit Day (September 22nd – the birthday of the hobbits Bilbo and Frodo Baggins), The Battle of Edoras starter set will see the forces of Rohan pitted against the Hill Tribesmen. The trailer intersperses clips of the anime with shots of professionally painted miniatures on a game board, before displaying the full contents of the box. There is a 176-page rules manual with fully updated rules for the new edition of the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game, along with a quick reference guide, and a ‘Scenarios & Profiles’ booklet that features stats for all of the miniatures in the box. Also included is a 3’x3’ paper playmat depicting the plains of Rohan, a set of dice, range rulers, and a multipart plastic terrain kit that lets you build two modular Rohan Houses, plus fences, barrels, and ropes.
Last but not least, are the miniatures! 56 of them to be exact. Helm Hammerhand’s sons, Haleth and Háma, lead the Rohan side of the box set, with both mounted and on-foot versions of each prince. Their 24 newly-sculpted Warriors of Rohan are armed with a selection of spears, swords, shields, and bows.
Opposing them is Wulf, the leader of the Dunlendings, who was banished from Rohan after his father was slain by Helm Hammerhand and so has sworn vengeance. He is joined by his trusted advisor, General Targg, who shares Wulf’s disdain for the Rohirrim, and both characters also have mounted and on-foot miniatures. They lead tribes from the hills surrounding Rohan, whose ancestors were driven from their lands. These Hill Tribesmen can be equipped with different weapon options including spears, swords, axes, bows, and flaming torches.
