TGC Pull Of The Month – June

SHADOWS OF THE GALAXY

Disney Lorcana - Sisu, Empowered Sibling: Stefano Paravisi

With the July Set Championship ongoing, my pull of the month for June has to be “Sisu, Empowered Sibling”, a Legendary card from set. The reason for this choice is that this card is a key component of one of the most successful decks in the current meta and thus I was quite happy to pull (finally) a copy considering that Sisu is among the most expensive cards of this set.

There are a lot of good reasons which explain why Sisu is among the most sought after cards in the set. First, it is a Ruby Character with a Strength of 5 and a Willpower of 4 that can quest for 3 Lore every turn. The value of this Sisu, however, is not due to its stats but to its ability to banish all characters with a Strength of 2 or less when it is played. Taken alone, this ability is quite efficient as it can easily remove most of an opponent board in a similar way as “Grab your Sword” can do. In a Sapphire-Ruby deck, however, this ability becomes even more efficient as players can use “Ice Block” to reduce the Strength of an opposing Character by 1 so that can can then be removed by playing Sisu.

A power as the one the Empowered Sibling has comes obviously for a hefty Ink cost of 8 that can be however slightly reduced to 6 by Shifting it on top of another character named Sisu. This option is strategically very relevant as there are two other Ruby Characters in named Sisu that are also quite useful in a Ruby deck. The first one, “Sisu, Emboldened Warrior”, is a 3-cost character that can keep a lot of pressure on your opponents with its Strength that increases directly to the number of cards the opponent has in their hand. The rule actually says “opponents” thus this Sisu can be a terrifying beast in Multiplayer games. “Sisu, Daring Visitor”, is also a very good alternative due to its ability to banish any Character with a Strength of 1. As mentioned before, a Sapphire-Ruby deck can increase the range of target of this ability further by using the Item Ice Block so that a mere 3-cost character can easily get rid or bigger threats very early in the game.

As you can imagine, I have been planning of playing Sapphire-Ruby item deck in this set championship thus pulling Sisu, Empowered Sibling was a very important step in getting the best out of my deck. Wish me luck!

Star Wars Unlimited - Shadows of the Galaxy: Jacob Dunkley

Ok this month I went all out and ordered a box of the second set for Star Wars Unlimited - Shadows of the Galaxy. Unfortunately I was a little late to the party with the first set and by the time I got into the game, stock was proving hard to track down so I thought I would go a bit more ‘all in’ on the second set. As well as giving me an almost full set of commons, and a big bulk of the uncommon cards for the new set, a good dose of rares, foils and hyperspace cards I managed to pull 4 legendaries.

As I opened the boosters, I was beginning to think there might be nothing of note as no legendaries appeared in the first 12 boosters I opened, however the second half of the box yielded 4! Of these the most thematic was pulling the Mandalorian out of one pack and then the Darksaber out of the following pack, adding to one of the Darksabers I pulled in a pre-release box. Alongside these I managed to get a Rey, and a hyperspace Evacuate which looks great. Overall I’m really happy with my first box, I’m missing a couple of rare leaders, and didn’t get a Krayt Dragon but hopefully I will be lucky enough to get one of those in the coming months.

Star Wars Unlimited - Shadows of the Galaxy: Sam De Smith

Unsurprisingly, my TCG Pull of the Month is from the newly released Shadows of the Galaxy expansion for Star Wars Unlimited (my preview can be found in the blogs!) but hopefully surprisingly my choice is not The Darksaber - which, to be clear, was the one Legendary card I was desperate for! - but instead, this absolutely stunning foil Uncommon of Jabba's Rancor. There are always amazing foils to be had - anything with a blaster or Lightsaber effect looks seriously cool - but this set features generally better foiling on the other cards than the base set does, IMHO, and the Rancor captures this perfectly - plus, pulling 3 of these bad boys (the other 2 are regular, but still) means the planned Jabba The Hutt deck is totally viable. Now if I can just get a couple more copies of Salacious Crumb...
