There is a new player in the board game creators world!
This February, Forgeborne Games brings their first project to Kickstarter with Terminus Frontier. A cooperative game for 1-4 people that sees the team form a squad to work their way through a lawless, untamed star frontier. It looks incredible! Here is the synopsis from the creator.
“Terminus Frontier is a massive solo/cooperative tactical adventure board game for 1-4 players featuring open-world space exploration, impactful narrative choices, and squad combat missions. Take on the role of a Drift Hunter, an elite mercenary and soldier of fortune. Travel the stars collecting bounties on wanted fugitives and performing contracts for competing stellar factions. Your squad will perform heists on maximum-security compounds, engage in deadly firefights with alien kill teams, and fly to the uncharted reaches of deep space on their mission for fortune and glory. Along the way, your squad will recruit fearsome renegades, outlandish aliens, and elusive agents to join your starship’s crew. You will be forced to make difficult decisions and face treacherous betrayals as you do business with the notorious denizens of the frontier.”
There’s a real buzz about this one already. Over 3,200 people have checked (at time of writing) to be notified of the launch of the kickstarter, which, for a new creator, I feel is very impressive.
There is plenty to learn about this project already. The kickstarter page and Forgeborne Games website contains plenty of details on what can be expected from Terminus Frontier. The thing that instantly hit me was how cool the artwork is in the game, it looks stunning and highly appealing. A lot of time has already been spent on this. Then the miniatures also look equally impressive to the artwork with incredible detail. One for the painters also I feel. The Vanguard character has very much caught my eye. I’d be angling for that one if I get the chance to play.
This game looks like it will have an epic tale unfold. It is not just a one off game but builds into a campaign and your decisions will lead your team in different directions. The creators note a play session is 2-3 hours but over 100 hours of content is contained within the set up. You can upgrade the equipment within your team as you go, and depending on which faction you accept a job on, will lead to different routes of exploration through the stars.
There are plenty of youtube videos already dedicated to prototype playthroughs which are well worth looking at as well as an online tabletop simulator for you to try also.
The 11th of February 2025 is the kickstarter launch date and I wish the team at Forgeborne games every success with their project.
