Disney Lorcana: Stitch Collector’s Gift Set Review – “The Best Gift Set Yet” Ravensburger has released the new Azurite Sea set in November together with its range of nice and useful gaming accessories. I was looking forward to the new set and its nautical theme but I must admit the item I was more excited about was the new Gift Set. We had some very nice gift sets for the Disney Lorcana TCG in the past, but this one is very special to me as it features Stitch, that is one of my favourite Disney Characters as you may have grasped from some of my previous contents.
You may also have seen me wearing my Stitch jumper at the release event in London. The Ravensburger and Fanfinity team on site hosted an amazing and very well organized event, as usual allowing myself and all the fans there to make some new great memories. I also have to thank them for gifting me a copy of the Stitch Collector’s Gift Set on release as I know it was on high demand on the day. Did the Gift set live up to my expectations when I finally opened it? Let’s see….
Contents
The Stitch Collector’s Gift Set includes 4 Azurite Sea booster packs, 1 card portfolio and 1 foil promo card featuring “Stitch – Alien Buccaneer”.
The card portfolio included in the set is a classic 9 pockets binder with black background and side loading. The binder includes 14 pages and therefore can hold a total of 252 single cards. While this size is more than enough to hold all the single cards for the set plus the league promo, you will not be able to use it to store your set collection if you are aiming to have more than 1 or 2 copies for each card.
The cover art of the binder is stunning as it shows different Stitch artworks from various Disney Lorcana set, including the new “Alien Buccaneer” artwork. The overall quality of the card binder is pretty good with the printing of the artwork and size of the card pockets being the main positive aspects of it. I would have personally preferred the centre portion of the hard cover to be double sided as the sides of the binder but I do think overall the final product is quite good.
The promo card included in the gift set is the cherry on top of this nice product. At first glance this card may look like the “Stitch – Alien Buccaneer” Rare card included in the Azurite Sea set but it is actually not the same one. First, the promo card version included in the Collector’s Gift Set is a foil version that received a special treatment that gives it a cool water illusion. The card is also identified with the Promo card symbol instead of the original bronze triangle you will find on the “Rare” version of this card.
Last but not least, we should remind that there are 4 Azurite sea booster packs in the Collector’s Gift set that will allow to add almost 50 more cards to anyone’s collection. You can check which cards you may be able to pull from these pack at this link.
Stitch Collector’s Gift set Excitement level: It’s unusually high for someone your size
As you can imagine from the title of this paragraph, I have very positive thoughts on the Stitch Collector’s Gift set. In the past, I had mixed feeling towards the Gift sets with some of them being very interesting and others been less exciting. I must recognize that Ravensburger made a lot of efforts to constantly improve this product since set 1 and all these efforts can be clearly seen from how good the most recent products have been. Personally, I think Stitch Collector’s Gift is the best of them so far if we exclude the Illumineer’s Quest (that to me is a different product).
From a pure collectible point of view, the Stitch Set offers a very unique card and a themed binder to store it together with any other cards from your collection. The binder is actually a great addition to the set and it offers much more value than some cardboard tokens we had in past sets. It is also something that many Illumineers and collectors felt was missed when we had the D100 set last year and I am quite happy Ravensburger listened to the community. Together these two valuable items, we should remind that the gift set also comes with four booster packs that are worth almost half the RPP value of the set. Overall, the product offers not only a good value for its price but it is very likely to retain some collectible value in the future.
Considering the efforts made by Ravensburger so far, I am now very excited to see the next gift set featuring an alternative art of “Lilo, escape artist”. It seems the newer set expected in March will also have a different packaging design and a random selection of booster packs from the previous sets and I am quite interested to discover more details about it as we approach the release date.
