Now I know Christmas hasn’t officially begun in many places. But here on the farm we put our trees up at the beginning of November, and we are proud of it! Extending the festive period to the max! Santa must be happy with us because it is Christmas every day where he lives. In truth, I am hoping we have banked a few good points. Why? Well, we have been a wee bit naughty and completed the latest EXIT Advent Calendar devised by KOSMOS – The Silent Storm – and it isn’t even December yet!

But our impishness is all in a good cause because there is still plenty of time to get your Advent calendar plans sorted! And we want to help you with that. Chocolate is so 90s! We want a morning puzzle every day of December!

Seasonal Surprises
I am under fear of being a permanent resident of the main man’s naughty list if I spoil the surprises inside the box. So I can’t tell you what happens each day. But, having worked through the Hunt for the Golden Book last year, this one is another Christmas cracker!
The scene is set, and the storm is blowing. With an exciting story book to guide you, saving Christmas is down to you! And working out where to start each day is all part of the fun! Day 1 is gifted to you, but after that you need to get your puzzle on! Knowing which window will be opened on the next day is determined by correctly solving the riddle from the day before! How? Why, the answer will be a code which relates to directions to the next window!
Daily Treat
Just like all the selection boxes we promise ourselves that we won’t dive into, The Silent Storm is choc full of unique puzzles. We thought the first few would be a soft centred entry into the challenge, but no! Straight into the workshop you go as chief toy maker, and each one is a fun but tricky nut to crack!
Most of them use the bits and bobs contained in the box but you will need some household things like scissors and pens to help you work out the secrets of the workshop! You must also pay attention to all sides of the box itself because it’s an essential part of the puzzle!
Tinsel Tips
If you get stuck, have no fear, however,! There is a book of hints (and solutions!) to help you save Christmas. But cleverly you can limit how much of a clue you get as each one is divided into 3 progressive hints.
Final Thoughts
We had a blast completing this calendar and saving Christmas of course! Having enjoyed The Hunt for the Golden Book last year, we were a little more ready for the mind bending riddles this time around! But it was still not easy street! I find escape rooms really challenging (in a fun way), and the mini daily puzzles definitely feel like tasks we have faced in bigger experiences. I did get lost in a few, but the handy hints saved the day and we survived to riddle again!
I love putting my eye as close to the inside of each box as possible and peeping in – it feels like spying on a tiny world! Not a spoiler, but we do find taking pictures on our phones of the inside of each one helps when trying to fathom out what the riddle cards contained in each one mean.
I really enjoyed the narrative thread of this one too. Santa’s workshop has to be one of the best settings for a Save Christmas challenge, and a storm blowing outside just makes everything insider feel even cosier. And just like the others, there’s a real mix of puzzles; musical, visual, arty crafty and each one clever in their own ways. My husband loves the super tricky ones and so, when it gets too much for my brain, I am set to work on cutting, sticking, and clue arranging! Haha
Yet again we have been really impressed by the variety of puzzles and difficulty levels in The Silent Storm. We would definitely recommend this as a brilliant way for escape puzzle and gaming fans to get every day of the holiday started the best possible way – with a puzzle!
