Shards Of The Artisan: Re-Vamping Card Games

In a world full of card games trying to find their space, Shards of the Artisan is something truly unique. The project by Fey Kinoko is bringing together over 45 amazingly talented independent artists to work on this project. It focuses on the beautiful art they produce and gives the artists a chance to shine. There is even a bonus given to some cards if you meet the artist and get them to sign it! (Don't worry, you will be able to order these online I believe as well). And finally, there is absolutely no AI artwork here.

The game itself has a top trumps leaning at its base, with much more depth. You have Character, Ally and Trait cards you can play, all with the aforementioned fantastic artwork. Rather than have abilities on characters, they simply have stats and you use the trait cards to give them abilities. This lets you build a beautiful deck of your favourite cards, without having to worry if they have the correct abilities to win. The ally cards are used to boost the stats of your characters, and then when you are ready, you fight.

Fights take place between 2 characters. Once they are boosted, the active player picks one of their card stats. Both players roll a dice and add their card stats to the number, plus any boosts. Whoever gets the highest number wins! The other card is discarded. The winner may start another duel between characters, or if there are no opponents characters left, they may start a Persona duel. Personas are like heroes and each player has one. In this type of duel, if the Persona loses, a number of cards equal to the difference between the two numbers are discarded from the opponent's deck. The first player to lose all the cards in their deck loses.

The game takes around 30-45 minutes and can be played at 2-4 players. This is definitely one to watch so go check it out over at Kickstarter, and maybe consider supporting the hard work of all those artists.
