White Dwarf 481 (Oct-22)

Issue 481 of White Dwarf continues where issue 480 left off, taking the summer of skirmish into the autumn. Along with an in-depth look at the Warcry: Heart of Ghur, there’s loads of great content for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar, Warhammer 40,000, and more.

The miniatures designers behind Warcry: Heart of Ghur talk all about the Horns of Hashut, Rotmire Creed, and the carnivorous Gnarlwood scenery. There’s also a huge gallery of incredibly painted Warcry warbands and scenery, and a new campaign and background for the Chaos Legionnaires.

Flashpoint Nephilim continues as the Imperial Fists and Black Templars join the fight against the Necrons. Along with loads of narrative background, you’ll find rules for a new Necrons Army of Renown – the Annihilation Legion. It’s built around destruction-mad Destroyer Cult units such as the Skorpekh Destroyers, Ophydian Destroyers, and Lokhust Heavy Destroyers, and the insidious Flayed Ones.

In the Mortal Realms, the Flashpoint heads south as Da Choppas continue their rampage across Rondhol on their way to Everquake City. You can continue your multiplayer campaign with new battles where you can fight over an arcane forge and for control of Lake Retch.

Since it’s the spookiest time of the year, there are new Battleplans that pit you against hordes of zombies and feature new rules for an undead ‘AI system’. This is a great way to add zombie encounters to your regular games and a perfect use for your Deadwalker Zombies from Warhammer Quest: Cursed City or your Soulblight Gravelords army.

The coverage of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy continues from last month. Can the Death Guard, Sons of Horus, and Iron Warriors defend Barbarus from a force of Space Wolves, Dark Angels, and Raven Guard led by Leman Russ and Lion El’Jonson? There are also three new missions, focusing on the Land Raider Proteus.
