Description

Welcome to the City of Light! Find yourself transported to the glitzy Paris of the Roaring Twenties. Ticket To Ride: Paris, part of the "Cities" series of Ticket to Ride games, features gameplay identical to the original game but with a shorter playtime of fifteen minutes. On each round, you either gather transport cards, spend them to claim a route on the game board, or draw tickets indicating two places that need to be connected with routes.

In Paris, when you claim a blue, white or red route, you keep the corresponding transport card in front of you rather than discarding all of them. When you collect a card of each colour, you create a French flag, which you then toss to earn bonus points. Vive la France!

When a player has two or fewer buses left to deploy on routes, they take one final turn and score points for finished tickets while losing points for unfulfilled tickets.

Introduction

Every time you see a new Ticket to Ride box you wonder with interest what new trick or mechanics the author could add this time. And the latest box of Ticket to Ride: Paris mini-series is not an exception. Let’s have a look at what’s inside!

Components

In Ticket to Ride: Paris you will find , 60 plastic (15 of each colo), a few spare plastic Buses, 4 Scoring markers, 46 Transportation cards (8 multicolored Bus cards, 8 white cards, and 6 cards of each following colours: blue, red, yellow, green, purple), 20 destination ticket cards, rules leaflet.

Gameplay

If you’ve played Ticket to Ride or Ticket to Ride Europe, you’re familiar with the basic gameplay of the series. For those who haven’t played, the rules won’t be difficult either.

After placing the playing field in the centre of the table, each player (which can be from 2 to 4) chooses a colour and takes all the of that colour. Then each player is given two random Transportation cards and two destination ticket cards, of which the player must leave at least one in hand (the second can be dropped or both can be left if desired).

The remaining Transportation cards are mixed into the deck and the top five cards are revealed, which can be placed next to the field within reach of all players. If at any point in the game there are three multi-coloured Bus cards in the five open Transportation cards, all five Transportation cards are instantly discarded and a new five Transportation cards are revealed from the deck. The remaining destination tickets are also shuffled and placed next to the field. Players must keep their destination ticket cards secret. If the destination tickets are fulfilled at the end of the game, the numbers on them will bring the same number of victory points to their owner. However, if the destination tickets are not fulfilled, the numbers on them are deducted from the holder of the destination ticket.

On a player’s turn, he performs only one action out of three possible actions, namely:

– Draw Transportation Cards. A player may draw two Transportation cards blindly from the top of the Transportation cards deck or open from the five open Transportation cards. If a player draws a multicoloured Bus card from an open deck of five Transportation cards, his turn is over – he draws only that card. However, if you get two multicoloured Bus cards , you keep them. You can take one card from the five open cards and then, after replenishing the market of Transportation cards, take the second card from the top of the deck or vice versa.

– . If a player has collected enough Transportation cards of one colour, he can the corresponding colour by dropping the required number of Transportation cards and placing his on the corresponding section, immediately receiving as many points as indicated in the scoring table (e.g. a track of one/twowill bring you one/two points respectively, but three placed will bring you four points). If the colour of the to be built was blue, white or red, the player leaves one of the discarded Transportation cards in front of him (unless he already has a card of that colour in front of him). Once the player has collected all three cards matching the French flag (blue, white and red) he discards them and gets 4 victory points.

– Draw destination ticket cards. If a player has already completed their ticket cards and still has left, they may try their luck and draw an additional two destination ticket cards. The player will need to keep at least one of them. This can bring more victory points, especially if the destination ticket card is already fulfilled thanks to your previous destination ticket cards and . Ticket to Ride: Paris continues until one player has two or fewer plastic left, at which point each player takes one final turn including that player. Players then add the victory points for the displayed to the victory points for the completed destination ticket cards. The player with the most victory points is declared the winner.

Final Opinion on Ticket to Ride: Paris

My opinion may be biased for the better, as I am a huge fan of the Ticket to Ride series. Such fans are ready to indiscriminately buy every box of the series as they know that the game inside is definitely good, and the new version will definitely have a new unique feature, as in this case collecting the French flag for extra points and on a new map. Why have so many similar games, but with different nuances? – you ask. Well it’s hard for me to answer that question. Yes, the mechanics are the same: collecting and the optimization route, but each version of Ticket to Ride series creates its own unique impression of travelling in that particular city country. For those who love to travel and have been to these countries and cities, this is an occasion to remember their adventures and share interesting stories or facts, and for homebodies, perhaps one of the few ways to feel the spirit of adventure without leaving the comfort of their cosy living room. I especially liked the Ticket to Ride mini-series (New York, London, Amsterdam and Paris), as modern busy life sometimes just doesn’t leave much time for hobbies, and this game can be played together over breakfast dinnerimproving your mood with a mini-victory. Of course, it will not replace the big version, but will please no less!
