King Charles is the 40th monarch to be crowned in Westminster Abbey since William the conqueror over 900 years ago. At the grand age of 73 Charles III is the oldest person to accede to the British throne. The high point of the ceremony is when the Archbishop of Canterbury lowers St. Edwards crown which is only used for the coronation ceremony and crowning of a new monarch.
