Description
Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza: On The Flipside
Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza is back with new characters and new rules!
As in Snap and Dobble, each player places a card from their hand face up into a community pile while saying taco/cat/goat/cheese/pizza in player sequence. When the card matches the mantra — boom! — everyone slaps their hand on the deck, with the last one to slap picking up the cards. Whoever rids themselves of cards first wins!
The entire deck is split between 2-8 players, who then place their individual stack of cards face-down in front of them. Each person takes a turn flipping a card face-up on a pile in the middle while saying the words “Taco,” “Cat,” “Goat,” “Cheese,” “Pizza” — in that order. If the card in the middle matches the word being spoken, the players race to slap their hands down on top of all the cards. Whoever is last must add the entire stack to their own set of cards. The winner is the person who gets rid of all their cards first.
For extra fun, special action cards force players to make certain gestures before racing to slap the deck!
If you’re looking for a quick paced game containing food with faces where you might literally break someone’s hand, then look no further!
TACO!
Taco cat goat cheese pizza on the flipside, is one of the many follow ups to (unsurprisingly) taco cat goat cheese pizza! If you haven’t played the original it’s like a bonkersley chaotic game of snap that’s channelling its inner lunatic who’s got a little bit tipsy too! This game brings all the rules of the original with some extra ones too!
CAT!
Much like the original, taco cat goat cheese pizza – flip side, is a super fun card shedding party game, the first person to empty their personal draw pile AND slap the play pile correctly wins! You may have up to 8 players in this game, and yet it’s still so quick to play. If you have 6 or more players you deal all the cards out evenly, if you have less players than that, everyone gets 12 cards – because we don’t need the added craziness of playing a whole deck across only a few players!
You keep your cards in a stack face down and only turn your top one (without peeking first) on your turn. The first player will say ‘taco’ as they turn their card over, the next player will say ‘cat’ and the next ‘goat’ etc etc working their way through the name of the game. When players get to pizza they simply go back to taco again. Should someone say a word that matches the played card, it’s a race to slap that pile quickest. If you happen to be the slowest, hard cheese, you pick up the central pile and add it to the bottom of yours.
GOAT!
So far so much like the original, there are also special cards (although different from the ones contained in the original taco cat goat cheese pizza) which you need to make the correct action before slapping your hand on the pile. Again if you’re last to slap, you pick up the pile, but you also pick up the pile if you make the wrong action.
But here’s the twist, or should I say flip. If you see the back of an animal/sentient foodstuff you need to slap with the back of your hand. Sounds like not such a big deal, but you’d be surprised how slowly your brain cogs turn just trying to compute if that’s the front or the back of some grinning cheese. You’ll be deep in thought trying to figure out which direction to turn your wrist to slap the cards with the back of your hand only to realise that’s not actually the back of a character!
CHEESE!
So what are the new special characters? Well there’s the moose, where you make moose antlers with your hands, we also involuntarily can’t help shouting moose in a silly voice which is not part of the rules. There’s a seal where you clap twice, but again we can’t help making the seal noise and clapping much more than twice – again not in the rules. And lastly there’s the panda, where you rub your tummy. Always feel a little sorry for the panda as inevitably we want to make a panda sound but I’m not sure they even make one, then we forget the action so we just shout PANDA at each other until one of us (normally someone under ten) recalls the action so we can copy!
This game is ruthless, last to slap? Pick em up! Slap with the wrong side of your hand? Pick em up! Make the wrong special character action? Pick em up! Flinch? Yep you guessed it, pick em up!
PIZZA!
This version has all the mad cap fun of the original with some extra complexity thrown in. We own both copies of these games which is probably overkill as one or the other will do just fine depending on how sharp your mind is feeling or how fragile your hand is. A game where you may break friendships and bones all In the name of being the first to do your best seal impression.
Made by Blue Orange, taco cat goat cheese pizza – on the flip side is recommended for age 8 years and above, but my youngest was only 6 when this landed in our games cupboard and has always managed to join in, so it absolutely could be played by younger kids, really it’s all down to the individual.
Overall this is super easy game to pick up that non gamers will easily grasp, great for gatherings and shenanigans as you can have up to 8 players, suitable for a variety of ages but you do need to be quick with your reactions. Also be warned this game can very much bring out the competitiveness of otherwise normally serene personalities, your bestie who would usually be like a beacon of calm will suddenly be trying to break your hand (all be it unintentionally) after shouting fast food items at you – top tip, remove any jewellery to reduce the risk of puncture wounds.
