The Piranha Plant is asleep, will you manage to help Super Mario and Luigi reach their destination? Roll the dice and advance on the board. Did you have to press the button? Watch out for the Piranha Plant or it will come after you!

Having become a parent in recent years, the joy of discovering what children’s games are available on the market has been incredible. Discovering Epoch games has been a real treat and Super Mario Piranha Plant Escape falls right in there again. This Mario themed game is awesome and here is what is going on.

How do we play?

First of all, set your Piranha plant up. This is quite a robust plastic feature and I’m really impressed with how it operates. Place your playing pieces in the centre, pending on how many out of the 2-4 players you have participating and then you are ready to commence.

Play is simple, roll the dice and move your piece around the board that many spaces in a clockwise direction. Each space has a number printed on from 0-3. If the number is 1-3, you need to push the big red button that many times. This could potentially release the Piranha plant’s attack. If you land on the Bowser circle, each player takes a turn at pushing the red button once.

If nothing happens after pushing the button play continues. If the plant attacks, all pieces knocked over or off the board are out. Play goes again until only one character remains in play, or all are knocked out and a drawn game occurs.

“It’s a me, Mario”

This game has wonderfully simple mechanics and rules. It is a perfect game for young ones to play. I know mine have had a lot of fun with it already. The tension created from pushing that button sees an incredible amount of excitement and anxiety build up in them all at once. They really don’t want the Piranha Plant to attack and are bursting with the emotions they are feeling (in a good way) because they are enjoying the game so much.

This makes it another ideal children’s game for teaching those all important life skills of learning to win and lose. With 2 to 4 players allowed in this one the odds are against you on taking the win but that is ok. There’s a lot of fun to be had in trying. It also teaches children to learn to take turns as well as the early arithmetic. My two year old is picking up the 1, 2, 3 very well and recognises the numbers clearly. However my 5 year old is in love with the game already.

“Wahoo!”

The game is rapid. Most spaces present a chance to hit the big red button meaning it won’t be long before the Piranha Plant strikes. It makes it a perfect game for young ones learning a game as it will keep them highly engaged for the short time of play, and when their focus wavers the game will most likely be over as well. A win all round.

“Mama Mia”

As outlined above this is really quite a robust and well made product and I’m very impressed with it. Visually it looks very impressive. The Piranha plant towers over the playing pieces looking incredibly intimidating.

The mechanics that make the plant strike are also impressive. I’m sure it is quite a simple rig on the inside, however, the fact remains that the set up randomly changes the amount of button pushes required each time you reset the game, meaning you have no idea how quick or long the next game will last. It’s been very well produced by EPOCH here.

Final Thoughts.

Super Mario Piranha Plant Escape is a super game for children and people of all ages. It has been a fantastic addition to our family game range and I would recommend for any family with younger children, particularly with a fondness of Mario.
