Description
Silk is a game about farming Imomushi silkworms from Devir Games. Don’t fall into the trap of the
cute cartoony cover though. Designer Luis Ranedo has added some spice into the mix, too! There’s
some ‘Take That’ involved here, as things get competitive, fast! You and up to three other players
compete and jostle for position among the Akaishi Mountains. Which among you will be the best
silkworm farmer?
The main mechanisms at play in Silk are area control and worker placement. Your turn starts by
rolling dice, which determines which actions are available to you. These actions include: breeding
more silkworms, building farms and fences, moving the monster meeple, and more.
Your aim is to position your silkworms into prime areas among the tiles. There they feed on the
surrounding environment, and when they do they earn ‘silk points’. You can spend silk points on
your turn to try to mitigate bad die rolls. But don’t spend too many, because those are end-game
points, too! The problem lies in that other players won’t lie down and let you get away with
munching all the best eating areas. If they can move the communal monster that roams the lands,
they will. And when they do, that can cause havoc with your silkworms, and your plans…
Silk has a bunch of delightful custom meeples. If you love wooden silhouettes, then you’re in for a
treat! Silkworms, shepherds, mastiff dogs and an ‘ookami’ monster all feature! There’s 30
landscape tiles too, providing opportunity for a modular set-up. You’ll want to play Silk over and
over again!
