This month of November sees another legendary board game align with the movies to create a brand new game. Roborally meets the Transformers thanks to Renegade Game Studios, and I am beyond excited to give this one a go. Roborally is right up there as one of my favourite games and seeing it combined with this movie is just mad. I seriously hope it delivers.
The box cover art alone just looks amazing. You can see the Autobots locked in combat once again with the Decepticons. Come on! (Can you tell I’m a fan of the franchise?)
For anyone unfamiliar with Roborally. A game created in 1994 that has had some later editions. It sees 2-8 players each control a robot in the arena. The arena is hazardous as well as the other robots being a risk to you. It is not a battle to the death though but a checkpoint race. Players have to navigate the dangers, and each other, to get to the end point first. It is not easy, especially as there will be some players that just want to hunt you down.
Players programme their robots. 5 movements for each player in a turn and it is all planned blind. Then players reveal their moves together and move together. There can be catastrophic effects here if players knock into each other and you may end up on a route you didn’t plan for as part of your programming. You may be alright, you may not be. Invariably some will be laughing on these moments, not everyone will though.
Now we get to programme our own Transformers!!! It’s just so cool.
From what I am reading on the game there’s a huge familiarity in this version in comparison to the original. However there also looks to be plenty of new content, new maps to compete on and some other exciting changes to make this game worth getting. I also just want a Transformers board game.
This is certainly a game that is bypassing the majority of my gaming wishlist and flying in near the top. It’s another must play and available this month of November 2024 for purchase.
