Description
Everyone has heard of Pass the Pigs – it is the hugely popular dice game where the dice are pigs! Coming in a plastic container the size of a glasses case that fits snugly into your pocket, this is the ideal travel game. The case contains the two pig dice, two pencils, a scoring booklet and a score chart.
On your turn you’ll throw the pigs simultaneously in the hope they will land in scoring positions. You can then quit while you’re ahead or push your luck and keep on rolling to try to gain more points, risking the chance or rolling a “pig out” (where the pigs land on opposite sides, resulting in the loss of all points for that turn) or “oinker” (where the two pigs land touching each other, where you will lose all points accrued in the game up until that point). If you throw a "piggyback" (one pig on top of the other), you will be eliminated from the game completely!
Some of the many ways of scoring points include the “Trotter” (a pig lands on all four of its trotters in a standing position), “Leaning Jowler” (a pig lands jowl on the table supported by an ear and a front trotter), and “Snouter” (a pig lands on its snout and two front trotters). If both pigs end up in the same position you will quadruple the points earned.
Once a player has finished their turn (one way or another) they pass the pigs to the next player to begin their turn. The first player to 100 points wins (although you could agree to play to a predetermined total score).
A variant called “Hog Call” gives players (who have scored 20 points or more) the option of risk predicting the outcome of their opponents’ throws – if predicted correctly, the hog caller earns twice the value of the position and deducts that same amount from the roller's score! If they predict incorrectly they will lose double the number of points scored and the throwing player earns double the points.
Pass the Pigs is simple and addictive, plus those pigs are really cute!
