On the big screen

With the world of One Piece the card game growing ever larger, new keywords and mechanics can make it quite overwhelming to learn. Thankfully Bandai have your back with a range of easy to learn starter decks, and ST11: Uta is the newest addition to this range.

Packed full of cards that share an easy to learn mechanic between them, this deck is the perfect way to step into the game or branch out into introductive competitive play.

As an added feature of this deck, it features a variety of characters that can be found in the One Piece Red film, so be sure to keep an eye out for your favourites!

In search of treasure

As with every starter deck, this pre constructed deck comes packed with a ready to play collection that you can jump straight into a game with. Inside the deck you can find the following cards:

1 x Uta Leader

4 x Trafalgar Law

4 x Tony Tony Chopper

4 x Jimbe

2 x Uta

4 x Nico Robin

4 x Usopp

4 x Roronora Zoro

4 x Brook

4 x Franky

4 x Monkey D Luffy

2 x New Genesis

2 x Backlight

4 x I’m Invincible

4 x Three Sword Style Oni Giri

10 x Don!!

Giving you a total of 51 formidable cards to fill the board and face your opponents with.

Straw hats represent

So, what is the gist of this deck? What makes it tick? The film keyword features heavily throughout most of the cards in this deck and forms the base the decks main mechanic that allows you to flood the board with strong characters.

Characters such as Luffy, Brook and Nico Robin all have on play effects that allow you to instantly play a card from your hand with a certain cost. This means that you can quickly fill out your board and apply attacking pressure on your opponent each turn. In addition your only counter event in the deck also allows you to play an additional character, which can take your opponent off guard.

With a full board, it’s important to have blockers to protect them. Thankfully the Uta and Luffy characters are here to save the day with blocker, alongside their other effects.

To round off the sly play style of this deck, you have an array of events to play when the time is right. Backlight is a situational card that allows you to rest or KO your opponents characters, New Genesis is a great searcher card that allows you to look at cards in your deck of a film type to add to your hand, and I’m Invincible sets your leader as active so you can swing to attack again.

All of these cards work brilliantly together to form one of the most competitive ready decks straight out of the box.

Branching out

But what’s the next step once you’ve gotten the hang of the basic version? Well, you might be surprised to know that the competitive version of this deck is doing quite well for itself. And you only need to add a few new cards to bring it up to scratch.

With the addition of Eustace Captain Kid, you’re able to attach a don to it and prevent your opponent from attacking anything else until kid is removed from the board. On top of that, Dracule Mihawk is another great card that allows you to play cards from your hand for free. Run 4 of each and you’ll find this deck instantly packs more of a punch.

I highly recommend a search for trending deck lists if you’re looking to push this deck to the next level and use it at a locals tournament. With all the new sets coming out, this deck maintains a strong stance in the meta and is always consistent.

Final thoughts

It goes without saying that this deck is one of the most viable and strongest starter decks straight out of the box. It has a splash of everything you need to hold your own against other meta decks and has tempo in card search.

If you’re looking to pick up a starter deck as an introduction to the game, I highly recommend getting your hands on this one. Especially as it introduces you to other mechanics that can be found in other deck colours. Making it a fantastic starter point.

That being said, there’s a wide range of starter decks available with new ones on the horizon. So there’s no reason why you can’t pick up a few and see what colour mechanics you prefer the most.

But whichever archetype you decide to go for, good luck and have fun!
