Description
Oh no, the mine is collapsing!
Hurry, get in the wagon and head towards the exit!
Infernal Wagon is an intensely fun cooperative game in which players must work together to create a path to the exit… before time runs out! But be careful: each card played has a high chance of triggering devastating effects!
A game of Infernal Wagon plays in 7 minutes at most, until one of the end game conditions is met. In this cooperative game, all players win or lose together.
At the start of the game, place the 3 starting cards and the wagon on the last one. There is no turn order: when the time is right, the player with the best card plays and activates its effect. They draw a card and any other player can take a turn (in the 2 players variant, you can play 2 cards consecutively). Once a card is played, move the wagon onto it. Place the exit card in the 7 minutes time span to win the game!
Infernal Wagon if just one of the many Iello Mini Games we own and we love them all. Iello mini games were the first ones we bought as a couple. Since then, we have expanded this collection and are never disappointed. Infernal Wagon is fast paced and intense but is so addictive once you’ve started.
Our collection started with Schotten Totten which we played the very first night we got it and immediately knew we were going back for Schotten Totten 2, which adds a completely new dimension to the game. We now have seven on these games and would recommend them all, especially Infernal Wagon.
Our Initial Thoughts
The artwork and embossing on the box of Infernal Wagon immediately catches your eye, they have everything on the box you’d need such as number of players and age range. They are all designed the same and look amazing next to each other on any games shelf. When opening the Infernal Wagon box, the artwork is continued inside, and the rule book looks like something out of the wild west.
The card quality is amazing, with the matt finish making them perfect for sliding across the table. Then you find the perfect little wooden wagon with the contingent of escapee cowboys depicted on it. This is an all-round fun looking game and even better to play.
Game Set Up
There are a few different ways to set this game up, you will need to decide what level of difficulty you want and how many players you’ll have. You will then need to decide whether to play the classic version or whether you will add any of the extra special cards. Depending on the difficulty desired you can choose whether you use the soundtrack or play at your own pace.
The initial set up needs all the cards shuffling but remember to leave out the starting buffer cards showing the explosion and the Exit card that will be put at the bottom of your draw deck. Once the cards are shuffled each player is dealt a number of cards, this depends on the number of players. For 2 players you each get 4 cards, for 3 players you each get 3 cards and for 4 or more players you each get two cards.
You will then need to load your sound track up and get ready to think fast.

Game Play
Once your 7-minute timer has begun any player can play at any time but no more than 2 consecutive cards for up to 2 players and no more than 1 card at a time for games with 3 to 5 players. The game play is nice and simple following a three-step plan, Play a card – Apply the Effects – Draw new cards. After each play make sure to move the wagon onto the current card.
When you play a card, you will be looking to match symbols making sure to set it up so others can play after you. The different symbols you will find are, money bags, dynamite, horseshoes, snakes, cowboy hats, boots, golden nuggets, and bandanas. You will also find rainbow stars that can be any symbol of your choice.
The main effects that you will need to focus on if you can’t match the symbols will be in the top left of the cards and are the explosion and the skull and cross bones with the red X. The explosion will tell you how many cards need discarding, if you need to discard all the cards including the one the wagon is on you lose. However, the skull and crossbones will mean your turn ends without drawing a new card and your hand limit will decrease by 1 for the rest of the game.
While playing you will also find special cards these are, Intersections, Danger and Explosions. There are extra special cards that can be included that add a new level to the game, but we don’t suggest this until you’re a seasoned pro.
There’s only one way to win but many ways to lose this game, to win you must play the exit card before your time runs out. The audio track is a great background with the music getting more intense as your time ticks down with an explosion at the end. So, you won’t always win this game but when you lose you will be even more motivated to play as many times as it takes to get the win in the end. The moment you do get this win you will be looking like a footballer who’s just scored the world cup final goal.
Final Thoughts
Infernal Wagon is a unique take on tabletop games, with so many variabilities and different play throughs every time. The soundtrack is a great addition to the game really building the tension and urgency in all players watching the countdown with bated breath. Communication is key in this game as you don’t have time to plan you just have to GO GO GO!!
This is the perfect end to a games night especially if you win unless you end up breaking curfew if you can’t help but keep playing trying to get that win (We take no responsibility for any all nighters pulled trying to beat this game :P)
