24 booster packs per booster box

Booster packs give players the ability to customize their decks and
discover their own gameplay strategies. Discover new characters,
locations, items and powers in these booster packs.
A pack of 12 randomized cards contains:
• (1) Foil card of random rarity
• (2) Rare (or higher rarity) cards
• (3) Uncommon cards
• (6) Common cards
Each player needs a 60-card deck of Disney Lorcana TCG cards to play.

There is no time to relax in the magical Realm of Disney Lorcana as the Illumineers are starting their journey on the path revealed by the clues found in the Great Illuminary. Their journey will take them to the mysterious “Azurite Sea” and this time it is not clear what challenges and treasures they may discover during their travel. However, with the set released on the 15th of November, all the great cards featured in this set have been revealed and it is time to review how good the new Chapter of Disney Lorcana is.

Azurite Sea at a glance

As usual the new set includes 204 cards equally divided in the familiar six Ink colours. The cards are not numbered following the alphabetical order within each Ink colour remaining consistent with the change introduced in in Shimmering Skies. In addition, an Emerald card has been numbered 26 thus ending up within the group of the Amber cards. This does not change the total number of Amber or Emerald cards and it has been done as a funny joke as this card, “Stitch, Little Trickster”, is therefore the 26th card of set 6 as a remind that Stitch is “Experiment 6-26”.

Each Booster pack will include as usual 12 cards (6 common, 3 uncommon, 2 Rare, Super Rare or Legendary and 1 foil card of any rarity). In addition, each pack will also include an Art card featuring a portion of a 6-pieces Puzzle art card.

In case you are looking to collect all the cards in the set as fast as possible, you may consider the Azurite Sea Booster Box as it comes with 24 Booster Packs for a total of 288 cards. As usual, boxes are not seeded and therefore there is no guarantee on how many boxes will be needed to pull every card for this set. Basing on statistics, a box may include 3 to 6 Legendary cards with 1 chance every 4 boxes that a foil card will be an Enchanted.

As seen previously, Ravensburger changed the design of all Enchanted cards in Azurite sea to align with the overall art design of the set. In this case, all the cards are sharing a shiny golden background that reminds of an ancient parchment. The Ink colours of each card is then used to highlight a few details on the cards and on the keyword line.

Main themes and cards: Set relevance in casual and competitive games

Azurite Sea is filled with great characters and cards from a lot of different Disney movies including some that were never featured in Disney Lorcana previously. The main new additions in this set are the characters from “Rescue Rangers” and “Big Hero 6”. This last set also brings a new keyword to the game with the introduction of the “Inventor” Characters.

In terms of gameplay, Azurite Sea will likely continuing to shake the Competitive scene with a lot of very meta relevant cards. In addition, the set includes a lot of very playable cards even among the Common and Uncommon ones. Among the most interesting cards to look forward to, I would like to mention three in particular that I think will see a lot of play in the next few months (in no particular order):

1. “Maui, Half-Shark” is a Legendary Ruby Character with a Strength of 7 and a Willpower of 5. Together with being Evasive (YES, EVASIVE) Maui has the ability to retrieve an Action card from the player discard pile AND allows the player to gain a Lore every time an Action card is played. The combination of these two abilities is quite efficient and can be exploited to created a Emerald-Ruby Action Deck with an interesting strategic engine. If you are interested in trying this approach for your games, I strongly recommend to look out also for the Location “Owl Island, Secluded Entrance” (Rare) that allows to reduce the cost for playing Actions and to gain 3 Lore id you play a second Action during any turn. Do not also forget to look for “Robin Hood, Sharpshooter” from the previous set.

2. At a first glance, “Lilo, Escape Artist” (Super Rare) may seem very similar to “Lilo, making a wish”, a staple in almost any Amber-based deck since the First Chapter. The main similarities are the low strength of 1 and the ability to quest for 2 Lore but the new Lilo is an Inkable card with a cost of 2 and a Willpower of 2. The reason the Escape Artist is a very interesting card is the possibility to play it at the start of the player turn directly from the discard pile. This means that once Lilo is in the discard, it can be played back to the field any time the player has 2 Ink they are not planning to use making this card very useful for example when top-decking. In addition, discarding Lilo can be a very safe strategy when a player is forced to discard a card as they know they will be able to bring her back soon. I am sure there will be a lot of interesting interactions with this card in particular in Aggro-focused Amber decks.

3. Last but not least, I think the new Sapphire Action card “Sail the Azurite Sea” (Rare) will quickly become a new staple in any Sapphire deck. As you likely know the main role of the Sapphire card is to provide a quick way to build-up a large amount of Ink faster than the opponent. This strategy usually requires effects that allow the player to add more cards into the Inkwell every turn and others that focus on replenish their hand. This new Action card does both at the same time for a mere cost of 2. Best part: the second card added to the Inkwell can be used right away making this card very similar to “Fishbone Quill”.

Azurite Sea – Final thoughts

Overall, Azurite Sea is a very solid Set with a lot of good new cards for every Ink colour. Together with the wide variety of great effects and abilities, I think the most interesting aspect of this set is that many of the released cards are actually very playable not only in well established decks but also in possible new combinations. The previous Chapter, “Shimmering Skies” opened the possibility to create new interesting colour combinations and this set pushes the boundaries even further highlighting Ravensburger effort in keeping the game interesting and very balanced at the same time. I am quite excited to start preparing new Decks and I am sure we will see some unexpected combinations during the next Set Championship in January. Wish you all luck with the pulls!
