UlforceVeedramon is the 8th starter set of the Digimon Card Game. Released in Europe in October 2021, this deck is a mono colour deck featuring Blue Digimons and it includes as usual a 50 cards deck, 4 digi-eggs and 2 holo-memory gauges. European boxes also include 6 Memory booster cards (1 per colour) to celebrate the first anniversary of the card game in Europe.

The key card featured in this deck is “UlforceVeedramon”, a Lv6 Mega Digimon with 12000 DP that can evolve from a Blue Lv5 Digimon for a cost of 4. When digivolving into UlforceVeedramon, the player can return a Lv4 Digimon of the opponent to their hand and trash all its digivolution cards. In addition, once this Digimon attacks he can unsuspend itself once if the player has 8 cards or more in their hand.

Let’s look into how the rest of the deck works and how you can bring out your best cards.

Deck Composition & Strategy

The key strategy of this deck is to quickly find all the cards you need to digivolve your main stack into your boss Digimon. UlforceVeedramon has the ability to attack twice per turn and it worths notice that the deck comes with an Option card which allows you to also unsuspend a Digimon for 3 memory potentially enabling your Boss to remove all the shields in two turns.

The deck also features a few mechanics to draw additional cards whose effects are triggered when the player has 8 or more cards in hand.

The first of these last one is the inherited effect of the blue egg of this deck (DemiVeemon) that grants your Digimon +1000 DP assuming you have 8 cards in hand.

The rookies (Lv3) of this deck include Elecmon, Gabumon, Veemon and Dracomon that can all digivolve from DemiVeemon for a cost of 0. Dracomon is a key searcher for your deck as it allows a player to reveal the first three cards of their deck and add a card with “Dramon” in its name to their hand. Veemon is another key rookie as it can evolve directly into UlforceVeedramon for a cost of 4 if the opponent has a Lv6 or higher in play. This ability can turn the tables during a match and can allow a player to quickly catch-up on their opponent.

Among the champions (Lv4) of this deck, Coredramon is the most useful one as it can be played without paying its memory cost as a security option and it has the on play effect to draw 2 cards. The other two Lv4 Digimon (Veedramon and Gorillamon) serve the main purpose of bringing your stack to a key Lv5.

Two out of the three Ultimate (Lv5) Digimons of this deck, AeroVeedramon and Wingdramon are nifty cards. Wingdramon is a good blocker with 7000 DP that can reach 9000 by having Gabumon and DemiVeemon in its digivolution cards.

AeroVeedramon has the same base DP as Wingdramon but it also has Jamming meaning he cannot be deleted by the Digimons in the security stack. It will also bring an additional security check to UlforceVeedramon due to its inherited effect (assuming the player has 8 cards or more).

Among the various options, the one that turns out to be practical is “Hammer Spark” as it grants 1 memory to a player for a cost of zero. Interestingly, its Security effect grants 2 memory instead of one. Personally I like to have this card in any blue deck as it really comes in handy. The other two Option cards of this deck, Victory Sword and V-Wing Blade are also good: one allows you to unsuspend your Digimon and the other returns a Digimon to your opponent hand.

Is This Set Worth Buying?

UlforceVeedramon is a good example of a simple and well structured deck that can be a good entry level for any player. With respect to more recent starter decks, it may not be very effective in competitive matches right out of the box. At the same time, this deck has received a lot of support recently and it has the potential to be much more competitive with a bit of effort. It also provides a few good staples for this and for other blue decks including the 6 Memory Boost cards that are definitely worth the cost of the starter deck by themselves.

Overall, ST-8 is definitely a good investment if you are looking to get into Digimon or if you are looking to boost other blue or blue hybrid decks.

In case you are looking to make this deck more competitive, I would recommend to start by looking into Dimensional Phase Booster set (BT-11). The set provides a lot of support to UlforceVeedramon starting with a new Digi-egg (Wanyamon) that allows to draw-1 when attacking. The newer Veemon is also quite good as it allow a player to look for Digimon with “Veedramon” in their names and for blue tamers. The new AeroVedramon and Veedramon also focus on tamers allowing respectively to look for one among the top three cards of your deck and to gain one memory once you play a tamer. Dimensional Phase also contains one of the best blue tamer to support UlforceVeedramon, Rina Shinomiya, although this card is Secret rare and pulling it is quite challenging.
