Description

Contains BB123 Desert Fort, BB124 Desert Fort Ruins

Desert Fort Bundle consists of 4 walls and 4 towers that go together to make up a small desert fort as shown in the picture above. Then the bundle adds 4 ruined walls and 2 mid-wall towers to make a combination like the one shown below.

The models – SdKfz 251 Half Tracks and PzKpfw IV tank – are my own Battlefront Miniatures and are not included but are there to give an idea of scale.

Semi Ruined Desert Fort

All the pieces are modular and can combine in many ways to make lots of different cofigurations. These can either be one large semi-ruined fort or start as the smaller fort and then have its’ walls replaced by ruined walls as it suffers damage in a battle.

The overall look of the products and the paintwork is excellent. The detail of the ruined sections is particularly good and you can envisage the desert sandstone construction. The pieces are rugged and seem to be built around a wooden core and will thus stand a fair amount of rough handling.

Defending infantry can be stood on the parapets around the walls and small field guns or anti-aircaft artillery could be placed in the towers.

So Fort So Good

The fort is typical of round tower forts found in North Africa and is reminiscent of a smaller version of the restored Al-Khandaq Fort in Buraimi, Oman. It could be used as the focal point for a recreation of the battle of Bir Hacheim where 3,700 Free French held off the full force of the Afrika Korps delaying their advance around the Gazala line and subsequently cancelling Operation Herakles the invasion of Malta and Suez.

This set is impressive at its’ maximum size of 18″ (46 cm) x 10″ (26cm) and makes for a variety of centre-piece or background scenery to your Flames of War Desert Battles. It’s not cheap, but it’s worth it. Recommended.
