Articulate Your Life is, without a doubt one of the best party games I have ever had the pleasure to play. It’s absolutely fantastic and the laughter just does not stop from start to end. Even the least competitive people get sucked into becoming ferocious competitors, you cannot help it.

Rules overview

A game for 4-20 players divided into 2-4 teams. You have to have at least 2 players on a team. Players take their team playing piece and place it on the start point of the board. The first team to complete a lap wins.

There is a monstrous deck of cards as categories for this game. On a team turn they draw a card. Each card has the category clue printed on it. The categories are Sporting Life, Social life, Getting away, MAX Time, Working Life, Entertainment and Home Life. Max time is a special with extra time and the team can choose a category.

YOU CANNOT USE THE WORD PRINTED ON THE CARD! That is not allowed.

On the team turn, someone rolls the dice to determine the target of answers needed in the time to get a bonus 2 points. The category is determined by where the teams counter is on the board. 1 player in a team will then give clues on the category, when a teammate guesses the word correctly, the next card is read on in the same category. Only 3 passes allowed. In following turns players and a team swap the role of reading the clues to ensure everyone has a chance to read and guess in equal amounts.

At the end of the time, count up the correct answers, determine if the 2 bonus points have been achieved and move the teams playing counter on that many spaces along the lap. Play then passes to the next team. It is critical in this game all teams get an equal amount of turns to ensure a fair chance. Ultimately, first past the post will be the winning team.

The Hilarity.

Watching how different people’s minds work with this game really is something to enjoy, and also laugh a lot at. Throw a few beverages into the mix and you are going to get some incredibly funny responses. I mean, how hard is a cable to describe without using the word “cable”?

Then there is the absolute gold of watching your mother have the category, getting away, then having to describe “sex on the beach”. For you reading this and I we would instantly go to a popular holiday cocktail and the item very quickly gets picked up from that clue alone. For the older generation that aren’t drinking cocktails….. Comedy gold for sure.

The Blanks.

Articulate Your Life can also be challenging and tough. If you know nothing about sport and it is your turn to read out clues on sporting life and you have no idea how to describe John Terry, or worse, your teammates have no clue as to who the person is, you could struggle and as a team this has the potential to be frustrating. Of course, your opponents are loving it though and getting very excited about your team scoring oh so low on this turn.

Or you might have a player that just spends time thinking about what they want to say over sharing their thoughts on what is on the card. My father in law was notorious for doing this, not fully appreciating the clock. It provides great amusement for all others involved though (on the other teams) but your team will likely be shouting at your teammate trying to articulate the item.

Final Thoughts.

Articulate Your Life is an ultimate party game that anyone can truly get involved in. It’s perfect for your larger get togethers, particularly with family when the conversation is running a little dry, cracking out this board game will up the socials. It is also very funny, in case you didn’t pick up on that from my writing above.
