Fresh off the back of the World Championships, the Pokémon Company International have announced the release of a new Trading Card Game (TCG) expansion “Pokémon Scarlet and Violet – Surging Sparks”.
It will be themed around Terarium, a location in the latest Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Video Game DLC – The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 2: The Indigo Disk.
Information about the set is quite limited at the current time, however, there are some things that we are super excited for!
· As the name suggests, the set is based around electric type Pokémon and in particular everyone’s favourite of that type… Pikachu (disclaimer: not actually everyone’s favourite); who will be getting their own Stellar Tera ex card. A new type of card, announced in the up-and-coming Stellar Crown set released in September.
· Along with the amazing Pikachu Stellar Tera ex, there are eight further Pokémon of this type and a further nine standard ex cards. For those that do not know ex Pokémon are super powerful and tend to have unique attacks and abilities that can help you win in the game and often have decks built around them, however, your opponent gets a double knock out bonus for taking them out!
· There are also a staggering eight ACE Spec items announced. These items are unique in that you can only have one in your deck and with that limitation comes exceptional power! This is a huge number, with previous expansions not including anywhere near as many.
· For card collectors, as some people just like to collect them rather than play the game. There has also been announced twenty-three “illustration rare” Pokémon, eleven even more limited “special illustration rare” cards and six “hyper-rare” gold etched cards.
Along with Pikachu Stellar Tera ex they have announced the following special Dragon Type cards:
· Alolan Exeggutor ex; that we are loving the special illustration art work for by the way; providing the images we’ve googled are accurate!
· Archaludon ex
· Latias ex (so we’re expecting Latios will make an appearance too)
Similar to previous expansions there will be an Elite Trainer Box, boosters available in retail boxes for the hardcore collectors, booster bundle boxes of 6 packs, a special “Grand Adventure” collectors box and the usual sets of three booster packs plus a single card that you can see.
We expect that more information will slowly become available between now and the official release date November 8th 2024 and we look forward to seeing more cards and what players can do with them in Pokémon TCG battles!
