News Round Up: A Pandemic Legacy Season 3 Teaser

pandemic

This week's news round-up includes a possible teaser for Pandemic Legacy Season 3! Elsewhere, Monopoly have introduced a set all about cheating, a game tackles the confusion of death, and there is yet more dinosaurs.

Pandemic Legacy Season 3 teased for 2019

Pandemic Legacy co-creator Rob Daviau has been talking to Tabletop Gaming Magazine and is teasing us. Firstly, there will be a Pandemic Legacy Season 3, and this will be the end of the trilogy. A 2019 release seems likely as Z-Man Games originally wanted yearly installments but the new owners are happy with a longer schedule.

However, did we say trilogy? Yes, that’s the aim, but given that Daviau reveals how Pandemic Legacy was intended as a one off and the whole ‘season’ thing was dropped on them by the publisher, who knows where this will all go.

The Rory’s Story Cubes team go in unexpected direction

Last week we told you that the team behind Rory’s Story Cubes are turning themselves into Hub Games, and now we have details of that studio’s first product… it’s a surprise all right. Holding On: The Troubled Life of Billy Kerr is a worker placement game and that’s where the normal ends, because it’s all about recovering the memories of a dying man.

Billy Kerr is 60, has had a heart attack, and you play repeatedly through the game to build the full story of his life. We don’t know how worker placement fits into this, but it is a co-op. This fearless concept will be out at the end of 2018.

Monopoly cheaters get an official version of the game

It’s trendy to bash Monopoly, but your scribe enjoys a game of it and if you’re cheating you can go play elsewhere. At least, that’s until this autumn, when Monopoly: Cheater’s Edition comes out. Included in this version is 15 special cards which allow you to cheat, such as destroy an opponent’s hotel, while stealing money from the bank is encouraged…  but if you get caught the game comes with handcuffs.

This could be very strange fun, but is unlikely to quell the social media razzing of the game.

Asmodee buys Rebel

Opponents of Asmodee buying the entire gaming industry should look away, as they’ve purchased another firm. Rebel are best known for Dream Home, but have been taking Asmodee games into Poland for a while now, so it’s perhaps no surprise Asmodee have formally taken them over (well, Rebel says purchase negotiations have been successful, elsewhere it’s said things are still being discussed).

Mythic Battles: In front and behind the scenes news

How deep do you want your Mythic Battles news? On the one hand, after Mythic Battles: Pantheon made over two million dollars in 2016 it’s delivery has proved enough of a hit for a reprint Kickstarter to be run in the next few months, with a sequel called Mythic Battles: Ragnarok in 2019, drawing on Norse mythology.

On the second level, there’s been a divorce. The game was originally a collaboration between Monolith (they of Conan) and Mythic Games (they of Joan of Arc). These two have now split, with Monolith taking sole control of Mythic Battles. They pledge to expand the game.  Both companies are in good form.

Sonic the Hedgehog comes to the tabletop

Sega’s attempt to rival Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, is bringing his blue spikes to the table this year in a racing game. You’ll be able to pick from five of the game’s characters and race them round an changing course, and yes, you’ll be getting miniatures with which to do this: five 40mm pre-paints.

You’ll still have to collect rings, and we presume dodge bad guys. Production will be via a Kickstarter later this month offering limited edition items, and then in the shops later in the year.

More Jurassic Park

Not only can you get your Jurassic Park fix with the excellent Dinosaur Island, but we’ve known for a while Mondo are producing an official take on the licence. The news here is there is another officially named game coming, in Jurassic Park: The Adventure Strategy Game, and this time one player controls the dinosaurs while the others play the cast of the first movie and attempt to stay alive.

Photos of the board show a hex map, meeples of humans and dinosaurs, and you’ve got till May to buy a copy of the film’s soundtrack off eBay for maximum atmosphere.

Amazons are coming to Imperial Settlers

Portal Games are unleashing a new expansion for Imperial Settlers, and it will be a group of people who exist in legend: Amazons. Here’s the flavour text:

"This formerly warmongering tribe is now building their new empire. Amazons use elements of the deck-building mechanism so that they can discard reconstructed faction cards from their deck, allowing them to modify the deck during play. They also get a lot of bonuses for building their cheap faction cards. How will you help them secure their place among others?"
