Celebrating the week of my 21st birthday with new sparkling games……. I’m only 21, right?!
1. Lego Bird’s Nest
As someone who loves a good Lego kit, this set was a birthday must, and was a wonderful addition to the current collection, which includes candy pink and sunflower yellow chubby-cheeked yoshis, a cloud vomiting a pastel rainbow and a girly Rapunzel. Boasting a large bird- whose wings allow an impressingly wide range of movement, and 2 little baby birdies. The little creatures enjoy a cosy, safe nest, decorated with twigs, greeneries and flowers, and are very proud of their two-tone, shiny eggs in the following colours: blue, red and green.
2. Lorcana Shimmering Skies booster packs
These were very anticipated, and they did not disappoint. Yes, I still have just the 1 rare enchanted card, opened previously at a board game cafe (this was a crazy, wild, gorgeous moment for me!), but I was very happy with these packs regardless. Not only did I pull a wreck-it Ralph, a proper modern Disney card that I had been intrigued by when viewing the Lorcana preview content, I also was chuffed to get my first ever Minnie foil, showing off her pretty outfit! As well as that, I pulled a new Maui, to add to my Moana collection and keep Hei Hei company!. Getting another Maui felt pretty sentimental to me, as Maui was the first card I favoured when I first delved into the wonders and joys of Lorcana.
3. Outer Space
We love visual, fun-themed card games in our house to happily (often exhausted-ly) play with chai. So this was a must, especially as I found it in the ‘A grade’ section of Zatu’s website, meaning that for mild imperfections in packaging, the price was discounted and it felt like a sustainable choice in terms of waste prevention. It kind of gives vibes of an interactive puzzle, cross Rome in a Day cross Dobble. As someone who strongly considered taking a GCSE in Astronomy in my 20s, this is a lovely little game, featuring meteors, stars, the lot! Plus it is a simple, chill game with gorgeous bright colours contrasting the midnight blue sky background.
4. Pokemon Battle Academy
I had never played Pokemon, and my friend hadn’t owned any of the cards since childhood. So, with the interactive instructions and prompts on the board, and within booklets that accompanied matching starter decks, this game was a reliable, gentle (even if I lost, badly!) way to get into playing Pokemon. A tutorial game that was cute and fun, so kept my interest and engagement. I played the Pikachu deck (I know, SO GENERIC! But so classic and so cute and sunshine-y) and my friend played the Armarouge deck. We have saved the advanced deck for next time (wimps, I know!).
5. Pokemon booster and fun packs: Scarlet and Violet Twilight: Masquerade and Temporal Forces:
Of course I added them to the gleaming online trolley to ensure I kept the Pokemon band wagon chugging on nicely! An immersive, dopamine-happy selection of colourful Pokemons, energy balls and trainers. My favourite on first impressions was of course, the versatile, pretty-in-pink Love Ball!
Now to finish off the pink birthday cake!
