Ooblets throws you into the adorable and relaxing “Badgetown” located on the coat of Oob, where you are greeted by a rather excitable mayor and her partner Ooblet, a Legsy; A rather funny looking fish with legs. They greet you and after helping with some small-town inconveniences you’re awarded a piece of land just on the outskirts of the town, now the adventure really begins. It becomes obvious that your character has no experience with these strange creatures that everyone loves so much, kickstarting your journey into joining a club and receiving your first Ooblet.
What Are Ooblets?
Ooblets are funny little creatures of many natures and appearances, and they love one thing above all else... To Dance! Compete in dance contests to progress through the game and to gain more Ooblet friends. But our funky little friends are capable of so much more, they can dress in the most fabulous fashions and help you create an amazing farm and home.
Gameplay
Although the gameplay may seem a little simplistic at first, you’ll soon see there is a little more to it than simply running around with the cutest little creatures you’ll ever imagine. There is a certain amount of strategy, storytelling and puzzle solving involved in the progression of this adorable creation. From farming and turning a profit, to saving the town from the mysterious company trying to run everyone out of town. If you’re ever in a tight spot for money you can always farm a few crops and sell them to either a local or set up shop and sell to the majority of the town at once, at your own prices and convenience. Don’t worry though, your new life doesn’t just exist in Badge town, in fact there are six regions, recurring vacation spots that appear at random and even a secret area you’ll discover towards the end of the main storyline, if you pair that with the fifty-one current Ooblets you can find, there is more than enough to do to keep you busy in the strange little world of Oob.
Characters
There are more characters than I could possibly describe in one place in Oob. Each one presents with a different personality and their own team of Ooblets, and with over fifty ooblets to collect, not including their sparkly and other colour variants, I’m sure there’s plenty of little personalities and creatures for you to interact with, trade with and quest for.
Customisation
You have a creative flow when it comes to your character creation. Skin tone, hair style and colour, purchasable clothes, accessories (For you Ooblets Too). You could choose one style for your entire gameplay or change every single day. More clothing and hair styles are available at the clothing store and the local hair salon so there’s always a new way to freshen up your style.
Overview
Whereas this seems like a simple game, there's some interesting story and strategy to buckle into once you get a handle on the “battle” mechanics. It certainly is a nice game to unwind with no matter which genre you’re used to playing. The collecting of Ooblets becomes addictive and the interesting storyline will keep you immersed until you uncover the secrets beneath Badgetown.
