One Piece Op08 Booster Box Review

It's time to plunder another exciting new core set for the One Piece Card Game. This time we're hitting the high seas with OP08 Two Legends; a set featuring beloved characters returning for more, and others that are making their first debut.

In this review, we’re going to be taking a look at everything it has to offer. From the contents to the characters waiting inside. And at the end, I hope to have convinced you to pick up a box for yourself.

Without further ado, let’s jump straight in!

Don!! You forget about me

The announcement of each set always has me wondering which islands well be visiting and who will we have the pleasure of meeting.

Well, in OP08 we have the pleasure of encountering the Whitebeard Pirates, and we get a taste of the Big Mom Pirate as Kaido and Big Mom join forces. Meaning that we get another exciting visit to whole cake island and the land of wano.

But that's not all, the Animal Kingdom Pirates are back in force and we have a surprise visit from Drum Kingdom favourites such as Dr. Kureha and Dr. Hiriluk as well as leaders with unique abilities like Tony Tony Chopper.

The treasure inside

So, with so many exciting appearances crammed into this set, it's about time we looked at what's inside the booster boxes:

OP08 contains 126 different cards in total. Made up of 6 Leader cards, 45 Common cards, 30 Uncommon cards, 26 Rare cards, 10 Super Rare cards, 2 Secret Rares, 6 Special Cards, and 1 unique "Treasure Rare" card, along with a unique DON!! Card.

All in all, you'll receive 24 packs in each box, with 12 cards included in each booster pack. A plentiful horde of cards to add to your collection, I'm sure you'll agree

Reinforcements

As with every set, there will be a few cards that stand out from the rest. These are often the most sought after cards and quickly become staples for particular colours. In OP08, there are a range of must have characters that you want to pull to get the most out of this box, but let's take a look at three of them to whet your appetite!

Silvers Rayleigh is a highly sought after card due to its potent ability to weaken two of your opponent’s characters, reducing their power and KO’ing a character with lower strength. It's a formidable combo which can clear obstacles in your way and clear the path to victory.

Charlotte Linlin is one of my favourite cards of the set and for good reason. Its effect allows you to send an opponent’s character directly into their life deck while granting yourself an additional life card. Board clear and life gain all in a neat package.

Finally we have Kaido. A down right nasty combination of removal and discard. Its ability can be used to KO an opponent’s character with a cost of 7 or less while also forcing them to discard a card. A force to be reckoned with.

Legends are made

With every new set, a wide range of new mechanics and playstyles come with it; and OP08 is no different. Building on from the various playstyles that colour archetypes are known for, new leaders and characters are finding ways of keeping those mechanics fresh and challenging to play against.

Causing self-damage to cheat out characters is in the spotlight. Yellow Leader, Kalgara, can cause self-damage to play "Shandian Warrior" characters from the hand for free. Paired with life gain characters, this is a great way to get some early ramp and sustain in the late game.

Ramping your Don!! with life cards. The new Purple-Yellow Charlotte Pudding Leader provides a unique way to ramp up energy by flipping life cards face-up when she attacks. Paired with characters that turn life card face down, you can start playing 10 cost cards on turn 4!

Resting your opponents' characters. In the Green Carrot deck, you can quickly gain the advantage by resting your opponents characters with a cost of five or less when another "Mink" character is in play. Keep your board stocked with minks and rest your opponents characters each turn to slip in fatal attacks.

Final thoughts

So there we have it, a brand new set that’s packed to the brim with characters, leaders and more to add to your decks. With power spikes across the board, I can’t wait to see where the competitive meta goes from here.

Although the treasure hits are the most exciting part of this set, the introduction of new mechanics, characters and exciting leaders means that the meta is the most varied it’s been in years.

Because of that, I really recommend picking a box of OP08 up. Whether it’s for drafting, treasure hunting or for a few deck staples; there’s something for everyone in this set and worthwhile buying if you can find it in stock.
