It’s finally here! The Nintendo Switch 2 has been officially announced in what can only be described as the chillest trailer ever. The new console promises a host of exciting features, including a larger screen, a sleeker design, and Joy-Con controllers that now clip in rather than slide, making the whole setup neater and more secure. The Switch 2 feels like a more mature, grown-up version of its predecessor, with a focus on design and, likely, performance.
While the design leans toward a more subdued aesthetic, the iconic red and blue colours are still present, accenting the connectors and analogue sticks. Accessories are making a return too, with a redesigned handheld controller and an upgraded stand that offers more adjustability for undocked play. This is a major improvement over the flimsy kickstand on the original Switch, which often felt like it could snap at any moment.
The Switch 2 also boasts backward compatibility, meaning it will play most physical and digital Switch 1 games, though a few exceptions may apply. Further details about the Switch 2 will be unveiled during a Nintendo Direct stream on April 2, 2025, where we can expect more information on pricing, launch titles, and other exciting features.
For someone who’s loved every second with the Switch, I’ll be a little sad to say goodbye, but the Switch 2 looks shiny! April 2nd can’t come soon enough!
