Fans of the classic Warhammer Fantasy have long been waiting for a modern reboot to bring the old models into a new era. And whilst there have been teasers and rumours dotted along the way, official models remained elusive. That is, until now… Fresh from Warhammer Fest 2023, Games Workshop have given fans the first look at the exciting new models that will be available with Warhammer: Old World. And boy do they look incredible!
So far, we’ve had narrative insights into the factions of The Noble Knights of Bretonnia, and The Tomb Kings of Khemri. But now we are finally able to lay our eyes on two of their most formidable leaders.
The Tomb King is a beautifully sculpted model, adorned with Egyptian style adornments, a royal cloak, and a ghastly blade that’s almost as long as the model itself. Given that they were promised a glorious afterlife but were instead forced to walk the old world in the bodies of mummies; it’s not surprising he looks so outraged. You also can see waves of inspiration from the AOS designs coming to life in this sculpt, which isn’t surprising at all.
On the other hand, the Bretonian looks like it was torn from a scene in Monty Python’s Holy Grail, and I for one can’t wait to paint an entire Bretonian army in that style. There’s so much going on in this model, with weapons galore, lanterns to light the way and chainmail armour to deflect any attack. But the highlight has to be the skewered ork’s head on the base of the model. It’s such a quirky touch to the model and gives us a fantastic teaser for another faction we can expect to see.
Unfortunately there’s still no news on the official release date of Warhammer Old World, but this reveal is only the beginning and Games Workshop have promised more exciting new announcements very soon. And speaking on behalf of Zatu Games, we can’t wait!
We’d love to know which faction you’re most excited to see in Warhammer: Old World, so be sure to let us know by using the @zatugames tag on any social media!
