It has been a long, hard year, and it feels like far too long since we have been able to go out and get a first look at the latest board games alongside like-minded individuals. Last year, there was no UK Games Expo. Fortunately, that is not the case this year and, barring any unexpected alien invasions, the UK Games Expo 2021 is going ahead.
What’s Going On?
Attendees will have the opportunity to get some hands-on time with great games new and old, and even a chance to test upcoming releases before they hit the shelves. Regulations are in place to keep everything Covid-safe, so you can Play With Confidence and focus on enjoying your experience.
This year, the Games Expo is being sponsored by some big names, such asWarhammer and Catan. Their products, and so many more, will be amongst the games you can play.
The event isn’t only for the board game players out there, of course. If you’re a game designer yourself, whether experienced or making your first foray into the industry, there are opportunities aplenty for you to get your ideas seen and critiqued by the big names in the industry. There are masterclasses on how to make your card or board game the best it can be, and you can sign your game up to be play-tested at the event.
When Is it?
The UK Games Expo is running from the 30th of July until the 1st of August, at the NEC in Birmingham. It’s three days of fun, starting at 9am every day, and ending at Midnight on Friday and Saturday. Sunday events end at 4pm.
Vikings?
That’s not all, though. There may not be an alien invasion, but there is a Viking invasion. Ardenweard, part of The Vikings society, will be attending the Expo, setting up their Living History Encampment close to the NEC. They will be showing off some truly Medieval board games straight from the Dark Ages, and clashing in brutal – but safe – combat displays.
If you’re a GM for an RPG set in the days of yore, this is an experience you do not want to miss. They will also be showing off weapons, and telling all there is to know about real objects from the past. Want to know how they used to set up camp and what Medieval mirrors were like? This is where you need to be.
Zatu Games
We at Zatu Games will be there too, so you can look forward to some in-depth information on the best games of the year. Don’t wait for us to give our thoughts, though; get yourself some tickets – on sale now! – and check out the UK Games Expo 2021.
