ON YOUR MARK……GET SET……BAAAAAKKKEEE!
Come on, admit it. You love Bake Off. Everyone loves Bake Off! The Great British Bake Off has captured the steeliest of hearts since hitting our TV screens back in 2010. From Ice-cream-gate when Diane left the freezer door open and didn’t admit to it. To Nadia and her brilliant can-do-will-do attitude towards all things sugar and spice. Everyone has a soft spot for even the soggiest of bottom contenders! And whether you are #teammaryberry or #teampaulandpru, life wouldn’t be as sweet without it.
And now, you can get stuck in without having to turn on the oven or get your mixer out!
Ravensburger are releasing The Great British Baking Show Game. In this real-time card-based game, you’ve got to get your pinny on and fast! Playing the role of bakers, the race is on over 3 rounds to build the mouth-watering Signature, Technical, and Showstopper bakes using the right baking cards. Flipping through decks simultaneously, players will be using and discarding ingredients in a haze of icing sugar and flour! As we all know from watching the contestants, however, discarded stuff might be needed at some point. But only the top offering on the discard pile will be available to mount a delicious do-over!
And just like the TV show, the challenge increases round on round. Speed is of the vanilla essence but a too-fast-too-floppy soggy (bottom!) card could scupper your plans to claim victory! Use the very best ingredients and your bakes will earn the best scores, but is there enough time left on the clock to get something out for the judges to taste?!
Just like the show, the feeling of camaraderie in cardboard form has been captured; players will be able to get help in the form of wild ingredient cards. And if things go GBBO badly, there’s always an option to bin the bakes once per round!
As a big fan of GBBO and real-time games, this sounds like a light, fun, flavourful filler! With a splash of strategy and a bowl full of luck, the Great British Baking Show Game is as close to Paul’s piercing blue eyes as I’ll ever get. And for 2-4 players with a 20 minute bake time, I’m looking forward to tasting this little treat!
