NEWS: Sea Of Thieves Announced

Hoist the anchor and buffet the sails, another huge reveal from Awakened Realms has just breached. Pirate lovers the world over will be excited to hear that Rare and Steamforged Games are pairing up to bring the life of a pirate to the tabletop with Sea of Thieves: The Board Game.

Released back in 2018, the Sea of Thieves took the world by storm. Offering gamers the chance to sail around an almost open world, engaging in naval combat, plundering wrecks on the ocean floor, and raiding forts full of treasure; all whilst fighting off other players that wanted in. In the years since its release, new adventures, islands and cosmetics have become available; along with a competitive battle royale style game mode.

But this isn’t the first time that Sea of Thieves has made its way onto the tabletop. Mongoose Games published the Sea of Thieves Roleplaying Game in late 2019, to bring players even closer to the glory of being a pirate.

As for what the board game will bring us, we don’t know. But we hope that Steamforged will at least include some of the following; a variety of playable ships, customisation, forts to plunder, semi-cooperative gameplay, quests, reputation factions and a few feathered friends to accompany us on the adventure. That’s not too much to ask, right?

Unfortunately, besides a fair bit of speculation, not much else is known as both Rare and Steamforged are keeping their lips tightly sealed for the time being.

What we do know, however, is that Sea of Thieves The Board Game will be sailing its way onto Kickstarter by the end of 2023! But be sure to check back at Zatu Games, as we’ll be sharing any treasures as soon as they appear.
