You’ve been told, “The Computer is your friend”, but we’d take that with a pinch of salt, as you never know what else it’s not telling you. Known for tipping the RPG genre on its head in one of the most entertaining ways possible, Paranoia puts players in the role of a Trouble Shooter tasked with completing requests given by the one overlord, The Computer. But if the promise of unexpected outcomes and chaos wasn’t enough for you, Munchkin has heaps more to pile on.
That’s right, Steve Jackson Games are taking on another beloved game universe with their world renowned Munchkin Series. This time, players must increase their colour clearance through the ranks to achieve High Programmer status before your opponents beat you to it.
As with all Munchkin variants, the gameplay concept is the same, betrayal in the name of victory! Players must work their way across the game board by killing anything that gets in their way, collecting any treasure left behind and stealing your friends treasure for good measure.
However, with a twist that only Paranoia can provide, certain features of Munchkin have changed to pay homage to this well known RPG. Races are known as mutations, classes have become secret societies, levels are now Colour Clearance and monsters have turned into the fellow citizens of the Alpha Complex.
So, if you’re ready to add a new layer of chaos to your game nights, you still have a little while to wait before Munchkin Paranoia hits shelves late 2024; but we promise it’ll be worth the wait. In the meantime, you can start planning your strategy, as those tasks aren’t going to complete themselves!
