We have all been hanging on in suspense, with bated breath, with anticipation, of the last reveal of the latest Marvel Champions wave. Well…to be fair…most of the Marvel Champions community called it but (drum roll please) Deadpool is coming. The 4th wall breaking, wacky, yet strangely endearing Mercenary has been announced by Fantasy Flight Games and will soon be smashing his way into the Marvel Champions roster. However, this one is a little different than your standard Hero pack and here is why.
Typically, a MC hero pack would come with 60 cards. As we know Deadpool is no typical hero. This hero pack is coming with a whopping 78 cards which in itself is cool. However, he is not coming with a prebuilt aggression, justice or protection deck, so that leaves leadership right? Nope….he is coming with an all new aspect, the ‘Pool aspect. That is right. For the first time ever MC is introducing a new aspect outside of the standard four that it launched with. This is some serious news for the MC universe as not only is the ‘Pool aspect playable by Deadpool but any, i repeat, any, other MC character can use it as well. There are some seriously off the wall and crazy cards in this aspect focusing on high risk high reward gameplay. There are ‘Pool allies like Dogpool and Headpool as well as a range of events, upgrades and side schemes. It looks like a whole lot of fun to be honest and will make for some super fun mashups of heroes with the ‘Pool aspect. .
Deadpool himself as a character looks totally ridiculous, but in a good way. For a start he has an 8 recovery and he can’t die (pretty thematic in reality). He has a forced interrupt that triggers when he would typically be defeated, in which his hit points are set to 1, he flips to alter-ego and an acceleration token gets added to the main scheme. My particular favourite card is based on his “catch-phrase” of Maximum Effort. He can take any amount of damage upto his remaining hit points and deal that damage to an enemy. There are a bunch of other exciting and fun Deadpool and ‘Pool aspect cards but lets keep some of the surprise right?
Deadpool just looks like a lot of crazy off the wall fun that I can’t wait to take for a spin. The Deadpool hero pack for Marvel Champions is due to be released in Nov of this year.
