At the beginning of the year all the fans of Lara Croft were wondering if we would have seen a new Tomb Raider game soon. We know that the Developer Crystal Dynamics has been working on a new game for a while and the remastered version of Tomb Raider I, II and III released in February were just enough to keep everyone calm for a little longer.
As usual, surprising announcements can come at any time hence the excitement when we learnt yesterday that Iconiq Studios will be launching a new boardgame featuring our most beloved Archaeologist. This new adventure, “Tomb Raider: The Crypt of Chronos” will see Lara travelling to the elusive island of Kairos to find a powerful artefact that is said to hold the power to control time. Not surprisingly, Lara is looking for another super-rare treasure following her famous motto "Everything lost is meant to be found." However, this time it seems our hero will not only need to navigate treacherous terrain, solve puzzle and avoid deadly traps but she will also have to fight an enemy from her past. I have no idea which of the main antagonist of Lara may come back in this game but surely there is a lot to be excited for!
Unfortunately, a lot of details around this new Tomb Raider boardgame are still to be unveiled as to be expected in any classic adventure game of this series. We know for sure that Lara will be the main protagonist of the game and that the Crypt of Chronos is designed to be a solo-game. A group of friends can still play the game and discuss the next actions together as a team and that's quite nice as it reminds me of how I manage to beat the original Tomb Raider 2, The Dagger of Xian with my friends swapping the controller each time one of us died. I am sure I am not the only one to have done it....
Basing on the announcement, Lara will also need to explore the island, collect resources and fight opponents in order to reach the Island's treasure. We also know that she will have to stop an enemy invasion thus we can expect some sort of in-game timer that will increase the tension of this adventure and create the right atmosphere for a game night.
Overall, I am very excited about this announcement and I am looking forward to hear more about the game and its game mechanics. If you also eager to hear more about this upcoming new game, don't forget to follow Tomb Raider: The Crypt of Chronos on Kickstarter at this link. And as Lara said "The world is full of unanswered questions, beyond all limits or reason... the answers await."
