What does every good co-op game need? Why a competitive mode of course! And the hottest game on the Spiel des Jahres winner’s list is doing just that! Dorfromantik The Board Game is adding a “Das Duell” variant to the series where two players go head to head in spreading village love!
Having just begun my village building campaign, I decided very quickly that this would be a game I did not want to share! It’s chilled, it’s puzzly, and it’s definitely one I wanted to solo. But every time I have sat down to play a game, as if by magic, my husband appears by my side. So Das Duel could well be the answer to my #greedygamer problem!
Details are quite scant at present as it is coming out in Germany first. But from what we understand, each player (or team) will be expanding their own landscapes using the OG tiling draft and reveal system. Tasks will remain the way to score, but there are new assignments as well as two new independent modules. Plus, what’s really cool is that Das Duell can be combined with the original as an expansion to the base co-operative game play!
I am really excited about Das Duell. Having just settled into a co-operative comfort zone, competitive play is still the main jam in our house, so this is guaranteed to hit our spot! As such, I’ve got my eye on pre-Essen updates and fingers crossed for a speedy UK release.
