NEWS: Disney Lorcana Chapter 3

Lorcana Chapter 3

The fan of Lorcana just got an early present as Ravensburger revealed the very first details of the next set for Disney Lorcana, the trading card game, releasing on February the 23rd, 2024 in local games stores and then on March, the 8th in all other stores. Chapter 3 of the game, “Into the Inklands” continues the narrative started in “Rise of The Floodborn” to discover what happened when the flood of mixed ink was released by mistake. In this chapter, the Illumineers will have to leave the safety of the Great Illuminary and journey into the Inklands to find precious lore that was scattered by the flood. In addition, we will likely start to learn what was released from the sealed spell book as a shadow storm has been seen gathering at the horizon.

Basing on the premises, it seems quite obvious that the theme of this new set will be focused on adventuring and exploring hence the release of a new type of card, “Locations”. It is yet not completely clear how locations will work but some of the cards revealed so far have the ability to gain bonuses when they are at certain locations. The two locations already uncovered (Forbidden Mountain, Maleficent’s Castle and Moana’s Motonui ) also have their own characteristics and a lore value but it is not clear how they fit into the game. It is still to be determined if locations are shared, played as every other single card or randomly drafted at the beginning of each game. Whatever mechanics the game will introduce, I think the location cards will create an additional layer to an already multifaceted game by diversifying the ways to gain lore.

Alongside the new Location cards, Ravensburger revealed that the set will see some returning characters like Pongo, Moana, Stitch, Robin Hood, and Jafar, together with new characters from Treasure Planet and 101 Dalmatians. Moreover, the 3rd Chapter will also feature characters not from Disney movies like Scrooge McDuck from DuckTales and Kit Cloudkicker from TailSpin. So far, we have only seen “Minnie Mouse, Funky Spelunker”, “Peter Pan, Lost Boy leader” and “Piglet, Pooh Pirate Captain” but I am sure we will see more cards revealed periodically as we approach February.

A final mention of the range of products that will feature the newer set. Among them, Ravensburger shared two Lorcana starter decks (Amber/Emerald and Ruby/Sapphire), two deck boxes and sleeves, featuring Robin Hood and Scrooge McDuck, and two playmats style, one with Moana of Motonui, and the other with Stitch in space armour. As usual we will have a few portfolio folders and an Illumineer’s Trove. We will also be pleased to see the Gift Set back that we missed in the Second chapter due to the release of the Disney 100 set.
