Are you a fighting game fan and a board game fan like me? Then this could be just what you are looking for:
The Guilty Gear Strive board game by Level 99 Games encapsulates all the things we love about fighting games. You have to move within range, hit before being hit and build up your gauge (like super gauge in the video games) so you can release devasting attacks on your opponents before they try to do the same to you.
This game is based on the already well established exceed system; when you attack on your turn you play a card face down and your opponent then chooses a card from their hand to play (if they have none available they take a “wild swing” and play the top card of their deck). Whoever has the fastest attack gets to attack first and then the other player attacks back, as long as they have not been stunned by the first attack.
Each character has some shared common moves, their own special movers, their own supers and a character specific exceed upgrade to the character. Each game feels fresh and new with the card draw affecting how you can play. On your turn you can also move, boost or even draw more cards. Strategy is key.
I have only been able to play as Sol Badguy and Ky Kyske; Sol is a hard hitter and Ky is an all rounder as per their character designs in the video game. In the full game you will get 20 characters to play as.
If this sounds like your thing, the Kickstarter for Guilty Gear is almost over so be quick and take a look here:
