Gomorraland Kickstarter Preview

Sergio Roncucci of Card and Company contacted me to look at his game Gomorraland. The game is a card based game that has already been doing very well over in Italy and is based on the TV series of the same name.

Gomorraland - The Game

Gomorraland is a game where you play as a powerful mob boss controlling his gunmen to conquer areas of the city. Your goal will be to defeat your enemies, send henchmen on trips to collect supplies and ultimately become the best boss in town. The last boss standing will be the winner.

In Gomorraland there are three main phases:

  1. In this phase, you pick up two misdeed cards and then you attempt a robbery by rolling a dice for each gunman you have in play. Rolling seven or eight grants you a Black-Market card and rolling a one gets you arrested (turn card to the side and he cannot be used in the next phase)
  2. In this phase, you decide what gunman are going to attack or commit a crime. If committing a crime, you roll a die and if the number is equal or greater than his crime value you win a Black Market card. If attacking you add up any Black-Market cards you have and roll a dice to see the outcome of the attack and then the defender does the same whoever gets the highest value is the winner.
  3. In this phase, you un-tap all the used cards and prepare for the next round and repeat from step one.

The game plays at a steady pace and is very engaging for all those involved. There is little or no downtime and the game lasts anywhere from 60/90 minutes for a four player game.

You will see alliances created to stop a runaway leader and these will almost certainly be broken too. The game is very easy to get to grips with and has a real feel of ‘Underworld/mob’ dealings to it.

Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed Gamorraland and as it’s a game from Italy I am glad it will be given a chance elsewhere in the world. Like any game that’s having a translation there is some work to be done on the rule book but I am sure this will be done in time for when the game is released.

That being said I managed to get to grips with the game in no time at all. This game hits Kickstarter today (10/05/2017) so make sure you head on over there and check it out for yourself!
