Last night (August 25th) Gamescom kicked off proper after the previous day’s Xbox Showcase. In an annoying and increasing trend, it started with a pre-show, because it’s not a show if it doesn’t have a pre-show these days. Geoff Keighley started off with King of Fighters 15, which launches 17th February 2022. Bus Simulator 2021, coming out on 7th September. And Nobody Saves The World from Guacamelee developer Drinkbox Studios, coming in early 2022.
House of Ashes
House of Ashes, the third Dark Pictures Anthology game, was up next at Gamescom opening event. Bandai Namco gave us a release date of on 22nd October, and a look at the titles’ monster.
Saints Row
Then it was swiftly onto the main event. A rebooted Saints Row kicked things off, it’s arriving on 25th February 2022 and has been designed around four-player co-op. It’ll be released on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. It’ll have upgradeable vehicles and the usual over the top combat.
Marvel's Midnight Suns
Marvel’s Midnight Suns by Firaxis was unveiled at Gamescom. It’s a tactical RPG published by 2K and it’ll arrive in March 2022. We only got a CGI trailer but were promised a gameplay trailer on 1st September.
Halo Infinite
Halo Infinite’s finally got a mention after its absence from the Xbox Showcase. We were given a CGI trailer showing the game’s first free-to-play season, and a release date of 8th December was given. There’s will also be a Master Chief Elite controller and an Xbox Series X limited edition console coming 15th November.
Horizon Forbidden West
PlayStation then got a mention with Horizon Forbidden West, which will now be released for both PS4 and PS5 on 18th February 2022.
Cult of the Lamb
Devolver Digital revealed Cult of the Lamb, a mix of dungeon crawling and base building with a cartoon aesthetic. It’ll arrive sometime in 2022 according to the Gamescom event.
Riders Republic
Ubisoft’s Riders Republic beta was then announced and is available now to anyone until 28th August.
Lego Star Wars
We finally got some news on Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. It was just a vague “Spring 2022” release date, but it’s better than nothing.
Jurassic World Evolution 2
We also got a release date for Jurassic World Evolution 2, it’ll be out on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on 9th November.
Empires 4
A new Age of Empires 4 trailer showed off the Roman Empire and the Rus. Far Cry 6 hit us with a trailer for the main villain - Giancarlo Esposito.
Park Beyond
Park Beyond is a new theme park management game from Tropico 6 developer Limbic Entertainment. It’s coming in 2022 to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Death Stranding
The opening show of Gamescom closed with a look at Kojima’s Death Stranding Director’s Cut. We have only seen a glimpse at E3 earlier this year, but this time we were treated to an extended look of its new features. There’ll be a robot that can carry you around, a firing range, boss battle replay mode and a racing circuit... because of course there is.
