What the Funko?

Funko Board Game News

Funko Pop figures and board games are often found in the same shops. Very soon, that statement will become even more relevant. That's right, it's been confirmed that the Funkoverse Strategy Game is coming!

A Funko Board Game

The Funkoverse game initially comes several flavours. Of course, it is a safe bet that more will follow. DC 100 and Harry Potter both come with four pack and two pack sets. Meanwhile, Rick and Morty and The Golden Girls (!) both come in two pack sets. Each pack has Funko Pop figures, although the photos make it hard to tell if the figures are full size or smaller. They certainly look smaller than standard. However, the components in general look high quality with gems and custom dice included.

It appears that each set includes a unique board. So, buying both DC sets will get you six different Pop figures and two boards. Also, different packs can be combined in a similar fashion to Restoration Games' Unmatched. This means that Batman vs Voldemort Vs Morty vs A Golden Girl is entirely possible, though maybe not entirely desirable. Each set will be a standalone game, and the Funko website promises four 'exciting games scenarios' to try. You can see the Funko game in the video below.

Initial Thoughts

While it is easy to be sceptical about the quality of these scenarios, if they manage to get a solid game behind the figures Funkoverse could be a real winner. There are Funko Pop figures for almost every geek culture IP known to humanity, so, in theory, this could be a mash up game to beat all others.

With Funko demos being arranged at Gen Con and a release scheduled for October we won't have to wait long to hear in the gameplay lives up to the potential. As we have now covered two upcoming games that feature the ability to cross over characters from different 'verses, let us know on social media what your dream match up would be!
