Come one, come all to the carnival of all carnivals! Adorned with talents a many, and carnival posters hinting at what’s to come. It truly is a feast for the eyes! So, feast away, with the latest set from Flesh and Blood, Everfest First Edition!
In this review, we’ll explore every exciting attraction that this traveling festival has to offer us. We’ll explore the mechanics, what you can find in your packs and the exciting prizes that await those that have lady luck on their side.
So, without further ado, let’s get stuck in!
Come one, come all!
The first thing that stands out with this set is the thematic design that’s embedded into every nook and cranny. Every card feels like it belongs in this whimsical world, from the playful "Prize Vendor" to the dramatic "Aether Quickening."
What’s more, is that Everfest doesn’t just feel like another supplementary set. The thematic cohesion that’s deep rooted in this collection makes Everfest feel like more than just a collection of cards. It almost feels like it's a living, breathing event that you’ve been invited to.
Better yet, it’s even environmentally friendly. Each booster pack is made of paper and fully recyclable. But don’t worry, the waxy layer that coats each wrapper ensures that the cards inside are safe from water damage.
Win a prize, any prize!
For our next event, we’ll be taking an in depth look at the goodies stored in a booster pack of Everfest, but it’s not for the faint hearted!
Inside an Everfest booster box, you’ll find 24 neatly arranged booster packs. Each pack contains 10 individual cards, consisting of 7 commons, 2 rare or higher cards that have the chance of being majestic or legendary, and a premium foil card that might just turn into an elusive cold foil before your very eyes!
As always, the rarities other than common and rare are harder to find in your packs, but are highly sought after for the top decks. The extra special rarities include Majestic, Carnival Majestic, and Legendary which is incredibly rare and hard to find.
But whilst we're talking about the cards themselves, it would be unfair of me not to mention the absolutely stunning art in this set. As with every other part of this set, the detailed artwork is vibrant, thematic and perfectly captures the set's carnival theme. Truth be told, it was actually the artwork that drew me to buy this set, more than the new mechanics.
Is lady luck on your side?
To top off this near flawless set of Flesh and Blood, the designers have included a selection of thematic mechanics that not only complement the Carnival setting but add a new layer of complexity to the game.
Talents are one of them, and they provide a brand new way for players to get more out of the hero they are playing, whilst tailoring their strategies to particular playstyles. Overall, they work as a kind of subclass for your hero and represent a powerful specialisation that they might have.
There’s also a wide range of exciting new items for players to utilise in their decks; some of which are accompanied by a new feature. On certain items, you might find a requirement that must be met before you are able to use it, which means there’s another layer of tactics to keep in mind whilst playing.
Final thoughts
Personally, I feel that this set instilled a much needed breath of fresh air into the game, when some parts of competitive play were beginning to feel stale. The designers dedication to the carnival theme also blew me away, as new mechanics were structured around the theme itself. It reminded me a lot of old Magic the Gathering sets like Strixhaven.
On top of that, I absolutely adore the art that graces each of the cards in this set. Each piece is thematic and brings the card to life, rather than just accompanying the text.
Finally, I have to add that this set is really affordable and comes packed with staples for most decks. Meaning that you can flesh out your decks for an affordable price and still have a deck that can compete with the best of them.
So, what are you waiting for? Grab your ticket and try your luck with this exciting Flesh and Blood set! Just make sure to show us the card you pull by using the @zatugames tag on all social media.
