Extra Large Rocky Hill – Sandstone does exactly what it says on the tin. At 13” (33cm) x 11” (28cm) x 2” (5cm) of solid pre-painted rock-like material it presents a substantial chunk of battlefield scenery for the diminutive 15mm Flames of War troops and vehicles to fight over and around.
It is a fair bit larger than the Large Rocky Hill – Sandstone, being about the same length but much rounder. It has a very realistic look and feel to it, the moulding is crisp with a very high level of detail. You could probably add a few little scrubby bushes to heighten the effect. However it is great just straight out of the box and onto the battlefield.
It has a plateau-like profile with a flattish 8” (20cm) x 5” (13cm) top to it. This means that you can site troops, light vehicles or field artillery on it to gain territorial advantage in a battle situation.
It works well in conjunction with Large Rocky Hill.
The two of them, together can be strung in a line to represent a range of low lying hills or they can be put together to present a narrow pass that could be a strategic choke point in an open battlefield.
Of the two I would recommend the Extra Large Rocky Hill – sandstone as the better buy but I would heartily recommend buying both. They seem reasonably priced for what you get and their impact on the table top is substantial. They really set the scene for your desert battles.
Finally, don’t forget that as this is a geological feature that whilst it is aimed at 15mm scale figures it can be used with other scales and in other scenarios.
